So I’m deciding between two offers and wanted the opinion of the AFers. Both offers are at the Associate level at the same bulge bracket firm. Anybody work in these groups or know about pay, hours, exit ops? Here are the offers: 1) PE Placement Agent role at a bulge bracket (similar to Park Hill, Probitas, Atlantic-Pacific, Lazard private fund advisory). Basically the role is fundraising for PE firms and I will be working on the origination and project management team. Most of the people in this group are ex-bankers so I’m assuming they make good money. Is it possible to move to a PE position after a couple of yrs? 2) DCM role at the same bank focused on liability management. What are the exit ops if I do this for 2-3 years? Currently, i’m an associate in credit risk at another bb firm and it’s seems like a dead end job. Could somebody comment on the exit ops for these roles and the base/bonus at the associate level? Thanks.

I have a two part strategy to maximize your utility: 1) I’d say take role one, because it seems like it’d have higher upside/broader exits and would be more enjoyable for me personally. 2) You can then refer me to your dead end job.
I know that more and more PE firms are using placement agents these days but how is the overall PE climate these days? Is is possible to jump from a placement role to a PE origination role given that there is a lot of interaction with PE firms?
