they are the same thing, unless you are talking about the economic pension expense compared to the period cost. In that case economic exp = (net funded position T1 - net funded position T0) + employers contribution or economic exp = adjusted change in benefit obligation - adjusted change in plan assets = (change in benefit obligation + benefits paid) - (change in plan assets - employer contributions + benefits paid) either way will give you same answer
IFRS says pension periodic expense; US GAAP says pension expnse
