I’m envisioning a peaceful ceding. No doubt Nevada is a hell hole and another state could come along and easy enter the sin business, but provided the US didn’t boycott it I think a country priding itself on gluttony and debauchery could do quite well. I’d visit.

I’ve actually been throwing this idea around for a while. What if some small state like Rhode Island were to secede… and then import 100,000 doctors from India. Then, they can sell cheap medical procedures and generic drugs to US visitors. If they want to offer gambling and stuff like that, sure - as long as they don’t scare away the old sick people.

Anyway, that will be $500 million, please, Google Ventures…

What if we divide it into three (toss out Arkansas since 50 is not cleanly divisible by three).

What remains are three collectives of states. Each gets 1/3 of the current national debt and citizens/incomes belonging to their states. However citizens can move, say from Collective A to B if they see things are going better next door. Each Collective practices a different concept.

Collective A - pure democrat rule

Collective B - pure republican rule

Collective C - something new and much smarter than the above outdated stuff

Increases odds of survival. If one of the three figures out something the other two will mimic it. Perhaps there are gains from the natural competition which would spring up. Brain drain; if C starts doing something smart, A & B smart people move to C, or start a mutation of the smart idea in A or B collective. If one fails the other two know what NOT to do. Existing debt is less risky in that it is diversified.

A fresh idea, maybe shakes lose the stagnation and de-evolution, maybe you get some innovation out of it. The problem as I see it; the US is stuck in their rut and is just going to keep driving down that road till the inevitable end. It needs a shake up. Anyhow just some stuff I came up with during my morning coffee.
