I’m sure we’ve all been there, slow day at work so a bunch of you go out for a long lunch and grab a couple pints with it. Does anybody ever actually accomplish anything afterwards? My entire unit is pretty much ready for a nap now. Every time, this happens. Fairly certain my boss is going to head home by 2:30.
What country are you in? I’m jealous. Doesn’t happen in the US, but I hear it’s pretty common in London. Gotta be careful with those though. I had a liquid lunch backfire a couple years back.
When I worked in London, this was by far my favorite part of the culture there, even though my firm really only did it on Fridays. But no, no one ever accomplished anything of significance afterwards. Most people would come back and tidy up their desks, answer some e-mails, but nothing serious was done after you’d had 2 or 3 pints.
Nah I’m in Calgary (Canada). It’s a large oilfield services firm, but everybody here is former field hands so we’ve got a pretty casual attitude towards it. Boss even expenses the drinks for us haha. I guess I’d better not take it for granted then.
And yup, guy in the office across from me hasn’t touched his keyboard since we got back. Not sure what he’s clicking on…
I watched a movie recently where Liam Neeson worked for an oil drilling company. However, in the movie, Liam Neeson and his friends got stuck in the wilderness and had to fight a pack of wolves to the death. There is another movie called “Taken”, which should have been called “Liam Neeson fucking kills everyone”, because that is what happens. I’m not really sure how Liam Neeson got casted in all these badass roles, but somehow it seems to work.
Ahh, liquid lunches. When I worked in strategy consulting had the craziest of them, especially in Switzerland. My firm used to pay like there’s no tomorrow to keep our clients happy.
liam neeson can easily take on the entire cast of the expendables, it would be a walk in the park for him
i like to take lunch as late as possible 2 or 3pm so that when i come back the day is almost over!
Because Liam Neeson is a badass.
^ Schindler’s list and Gangs of New York.
Yeah, but he bites it big time in “The Meanaced Phantom” or some movie like that…
We used to have pints at lunch on Fridays. One or two, so never affected work. A little slower, that’s all.
Before US got so PC, my former employer used to stock the fridge with beer. Friday evenings were party on the premises. Fucking lawyers with their liability talk killed that.
^ We had something similar on Fridays.
Our drinking lamp is lit every Friday at 3:00. We still get work done. Usually save low priority stuff for Friday afternoons.
Do your company’s organize any happy hour events?
I work for a software company and regularly knock a few back.
I popped a couple Wednesday and came back and 360 back flip slam dunked this competitive analysis presentation to new sales hires. Dropping drunk knowledge on sales dimes feels good all day urry day.
