Pistorius gets away with murder

I don’t really get how discharging a firearm in your own house is “in public”

I have a relative who did time for a lot of silly stuff, drugs possession, involuntary manslaughter (accidentally hit a motorcyclist at a tricky intersection, whose passenger/girlfriend died), and parole violations. He also reported that sex happened, but not as often as we imagine. He did say that violence was a fairly frequent occurance and a more immediate threat, and that race was basically the dividing line for everything.

Interesting side story: he had Hepititis-C which the doctor told him was going to kill him within 2 years, so he stopped visiting his probation officer, figuring he would just enjoy life a bit before dying at home - lo and behold, his liver regrew and he survived, but then he was in a car stopped by the police and was arrested for parole violation. So back from death’s door and back to prison for a year.

He says that he got Hepititis-C while he was in prison, and since he was difficult to employ after getting out, he had no access to doctors, so it just festered and got worse and worse. I did not ask him what transmission mechanism he thought the Hep-C came from.

It was for a separate incident where he fired a weapon in a restaurant. I’m not sure how he ended up facing this charge in the same trial. It seems that it was swept under the carpet until the other stuff happened

jesus, that’s a pretty grim story and (rather judgementally) not one you would guess would be for a relative of a successful CFA.
