Hi: Would the following position be a good entry-level opportunity? Also, what compensation can you expect from such a position (SF Bay Area)? Thanks for your input. • Manage the investment database, including the preparation of portfolio valuations, IRR calculations, and analysis of portfolio company financial information for internal reporting • Ensure accurate and complete capture of key accounting information (valuation events, conversions, liquidations, etc.) relating to portfolio companies • Maintain financials and reports from portfolio companies; assist in preparation of semi-annual portfolio reviews • Act as central point of contact between investment team and corporate counsel in all aspects of the deal approval, contract, and funding process • Contribute to the development of management reports, incorporating quantitative performance measures of portfolio performance and social impact • Ensure proper information flows to key internal and external constituents • Continually explore and implement improvement recommendations to processes, procedures, and systems • Additional finance related duties and responsibilities as needed
looks interesting, what i like is that it’s the kind of experience u can fluff up and make it looke more “grand” in the future can help with compensation, not in your area… but probably you can expect as much as you would get for any other entry level job, that is not too much lol
50-55K? Base
Realize that you’re in portfolio management and not acquisitions. If you want to be a big time VC/PE guy, this isn’t the track you necessarily want…
Well, first off, realize this is a back office or operations type position and I wouldn’t expect it to entail a create deal of hardcore capital markets exposure initially. In my experience the “Portfolio Analyst” role requires you to be an expert on the portfolio attributes, trade allocations, investment guidelines, performance, exceptions, etc. That said, with the exposure you will have to PMs and CRM people who are relying on you to provide this information, I can infer that it is a reasonable path into sales, relationship management and asset management. I would expect that in terms of research and portfolio management it could be a reasonable jumping off point into a generalist role as an analyst of junior PM in managed accounts, etc. Overall, if those are your goals I think it is a nice entry level opportunity.
