PRMIA

Hi, every one in this forum has passed the PRMIA certificate exams? I am considering about it and want advice from you. There seems no study notes on the market, so I assume that the PRMIA handbook is the only learning material that I can have. Right? Also is there any exercise software or testing bank that I can buy anywhere? The exam is computerized. PRMIA seems a little bit too obscure in the dark. Please, any advice is highly appreciated. Jasmine

Yes, the handbook is pretty much the only thing out there I know of. There are testing banks - I know of KESDEE which can be purchased through prmia.org. Yes, the exam is computerized.

I am taking Exam III in a month or so. I am using the Handbook and Kesdee Diagnostic Exams. Kesdee’s ePRM Coach seems to be study notes/questions package. I think somebody passed exams using this without buying the Handbook. PRMIA also offers lecture DVDs, but they are expensive. PassPro also offers PRM study material.

The DVD lectures are amazingly good. I took an in-person review course and it was a complete waste. The DVD’s have the authors of the Handbook actually giving the lectures, in video, synchronized with detailed slides/handouts, plus there are excel worksheets to buttress, and even “captiave” excel examples, which are like little video lectures on how to manipulate the excel files… I was very skeptical of the DVDs given their expense, however I found them to be extremely good. Way better than the $2,000 I spent on an in-person review course… the DVDs also come with web access to additional files, and diagnostic exams… not just for the overall Level, but separate diagnostic exams for each section and sub-section… Extremely valuable!

i just read the PRM handbook - one of the best pieces of financial writing i have read. its not easy like the FRM material, much more mathematical, but in a good way - more conceptual, and practical as well. i know this seems contradictory, but read PRM handbook and spend some time digesting and understanding it - read it 2/3 times if necessary, and you will understand risk and portfolio mgmt much better.
