Hello, I just passed L3, and I just received notice that 48 months of work experience is approved. so couple of questions: - Do I get awarded the charter or do I have to wait until next september? - If I have to wait until next september, until then what can I put on my business card ? is it " CFA, Charter Pending" ?
Local society work experience review…unless your already a member, be prepared to wait…ugh.
hey Petey, yes, i see that “44 decision days remaining”. Ok, so lets say that gets approved ? Then what happens? Do I still have to wait until next september to call myself CFA ?
soon as you are approved you = CFA
what does it mean if there are no decision days remaining posted on your membership status but your application is undgoing a work experience review?

Are you actually notified of your work experience being approved by the institute or do you just assume it has been approved once your status goes to society review?

No notification - it will just say ‘regular’ for the recommended type once it goes that way.

I am in this situation as well. It seems that this means we are waiting the CFA Institute to review and accept/reject our work experience. Once that is done, the application is sent to the local society and at that point you will see a number of decision days remaining. I have to say the CFA website could hardly be more nebulous or confusing on these matters. Why is there not a simple explanation anywhere of this process? Why is it so complicated? For instance, when I signed up for level 3 I had to apply for membership at that time as do all candidates. I entered something really quick and inadequate in the work experience section and then months later before getting my sponsors to submit, I updated my experience. Then my sponsors filled in their part. Surely then you would think my work experience review would take into account my updated work experience. Nope. They will only consider what I entered last January when I signed up for level 3. I had to ring up and cancel my application and start a new one. No where on the site is that explained to you. How many people are prepared wth all their work experience details etc the day they sign up for the exam? I find the whole process confusing and counter-intuitive.
carson, that exact same thing happened to me, i just threw something in so I could sign up for the exam and that was what they approved or denied. I guess i should have said I planned to still be employed at the time I wrote and passed the exam. so i guess we are in the same boat. they could definitely use a section that details exactly what is required, and when along with timlines. cheers.
Same here. Entered something real quick when registering for level 3. I had to call and cancel it before submitting new one. My status now says 44 decision days remaining. Do I really have to wait that long? What is the average?
Just want to bump this thread. So I passed level 3 about 3 years ago and was only able to upgrade an affiliate membership today. Does anyone know how long it takes for CFA Institute to approve work exp?
> Does anyone know how long it takes for CFA > Institute to approve work exp? Last month CFAI took almost three weeks to approve my work experience.
cfai took 2 weeks for me. Local scoeity started with 44 days, now at 24 days, this is EXTREMELY F’N FRUSTRATING
hm, I just updated my work experience a couple of weeks ago and today I applied for membership, will I have the same problem of getting considered only work experience that was entered when I enrolled for level 3 exam? that makes no sense
Figured I would add my experience. I passed Level 3 and had my 48 months approved. The local society did not approve my experience in the 44 days. I hit 0. The CFA Institute will automatically go ahead and push through your application at this point, and you will be awarded the Charter. It takes maybe 2 days for the website to recognize it. The website will change, and you can search your name in the directory and see , CFA. A week or so later you will receive an email of congratulations, and maybe 3 weeks later you will receive 2 Official letters. Hope this helps. The 44 days stinks, but there is definitely a light at the end of the tunnel. Congrats! (This happened last month, so very relevant time wise.)
Here’s a pdf that describes the process VISUALLY. I hope it might help somewhat. http://www.cfasweden.se/Lists/CFA%20Sweden%20Board/Attachments/1/Membership%20Application%20Process.pdf or here (same file): http://www.box.net/shared/9j15ubers3 ---------------------------------------- As for me, I submitted my application on October 15th. Still under review by CFAI. I wonder why they don’t have anything in “Decision Days Remaining” column? (“Application Review Status” menu)

They may have to cancel your original application. You can then reapply with your updated work experience. The system makes no sense, but it is what it is.
