Professional Learning / CE -- is it recommended or a requirement?

I always thought CE was not mandatory… But when I did my renewal, there was a checkbox about completing 20 hours.

Now I see there is a PL tracker too. Professional Learning Program

So is it required or not required?

Thats good! I already have many hours of CE of insurance, finra, CFP, ChFC, CLU… I dont need more CE’s…

Actuarial bodies also have a Continuing Development Program. Assuming the CFA Institute is similar to them, then no, it is not required (unless there’s a job role where they require the CFA to be compliant). However, you will need to disclose that you are not compliant.

Here’s a quote from the CAS:

Members must certify compliance at the end of each calendar year… Members who do not certify their compliance… will be shown as Non-Compliant under the Continuing Education heading of the membership directory on the CAS website.

While requirement is not mandatory, members who don’t complete it are considered “non-compliant.” They must disclose non-compliance to those who rely on their actuarial expertise.
