QBank vs CFAI chapter problems

I am finding that QBank kinda sucks for L2. It is good to get a familiarity with the terms, yes - but the “hard” questions seem to be hard because you have to read unrelated lines of useless gibberish. For people who have done both extensively, what are your thoughts? Thanks in advance.

I agree with you, CFAI questions are much better. Unfortunately there aren’t end of chapter questions for every section :\

I have fun doing the CFAI problems, I could do them all day. I feel pain when doing the Schweser problems, they give me serious ADD.

The only good think about the schwesers Q bank is the volume of its Question base. Although, the Q’s are not that great compared to CFAI, I still navigate through all the questions. This way, it helps me in retaining the concepts and improve speed. I decided to complete the Q bank totally, review the notes i made for all the sections and then hit the CFAI text book Q’s. This way i would know my strengths and weaknesses before i start solving mocks.

yeah, that’s a good point - it’s just very brute force, but i will do anything to increase my probability of passing so i will suffer through the QBank

I can tell CFAI question really test you very well on every concept but the trouble is I can’t retain any of it later! Aliman, are you bale to crack all the CFAI Qs and retain them? S

The thing I don’t like about the CFAI problems is that they are not in test format for many of the chapters. I wish they would just make them vignettes or something like that so we get exam experience and also so the lazy CFAI can just copy and paste them onto the actual exam.

Philip, how do you compare the difficulty level of CFAI end of chapter qs and real exam questions other than vignette style? Thanks S

solarpower, I am able to do the CFAI questions, but I have to constantly refer back to them to retain them. I still have quite a few left to do. phil is right though, a lot of the questions are long answer, but I think some of the long answer questions could be easily converted into multiple choice questions. I found that the questions in FSA were money. It’s too bad that they take too long!

Are you guys solving essay type long answer questions too ? I was thinking about only doing vignettes in CFAI texts… i’m not sure whether it would be worth it to do essay types this late in the game…

This obviously can help you, but your opportunity cost is high. There isn’t enough time left for these IMO. Focus on the vignettes and MC’s from the CFAI. Use schweser where the CFAI doesn’t have the MC or vingettes. These should be what you do to beef up your understanding of the chapter. The time has come though to gear up for practice tests. I plan on doing one or two this weekend. I want to have at least 30 days left for the CFAI tests+mini tests. For L1 I thought the mini-tests were easy, but the 120Q tests were much harder than the real thing. BUT, the underlying material tested was very similar. GL

CFAI EOCQ’s take forever!!! It took me more than 2 weeks to get done with the Econ and Quant Q’s. I don’t think, If I go at this rate, I will be able to achieve the June 2010 L2 target, forget about June 09.

after completing about 20% of QBank questions, I stopped. I didn’t time myself. My average is 68%. Bad, bad…QBank’s wording is so awkward, and they are not good samples for getting most out within limited study schedules. I opt to do the Practice Exams and old samplers. There are 6 Schweser Practice Exams (x2 = 12, considering morning session and afternoon session) and samples and mocks (5 in total) from 2008. Those will build good foundation before the exam. I hope.

I cant believe I am saying this but I got way bored of qbank qns, there are just too many of them and I dont have the time right now. I am prioritising CFAI qns, stalla qns and then I am going to do the end of reading and exam qns from qbank in May.
