Can anyone else not do quants? It is a topic which may as well be written in a foreign language - I missed it out at level 1 and considering doing the same at Lvl 2. what am I missing? can anybody recommend a good study provider/class? Have tried Schweser with no joy
I had the same problem. I went through the section and did some of the questions and failed miserably. Going to have to go back over it and concentrate hard during my final review.
Which part are you having difficulty with?
I remember when i did this in college I thought the same, but it actually is very easy, its just the wording that gets to you, just learn the basics well, as in the definitions, and the rest should fall into place, goodluck
I was lost too. These youtube videos helped. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=abjHpJ36pIE&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j9ZPMlVHJVs&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL http://www.youtube.com/user/ProfKelley#g/u
thanks for the videos, Robert
also do not skip a topic you may regret it. at least go over the EOC and try to understand the explanations, it is all there if you put in the time.
I will tell you that I was totally lost in L1 quant. I didn’t know a T-test from a Z table from a type II error. Ha and Ho? Forget it. If you’re stuck on the basics, go out an buy Intermediate Statistics for Dummies. It’ll help get your feet planted on the ground. Also, the Schweser materials (if you use them) are less intimidating than the text. FWIW, I thought the explanation about ANOVA in the text was really inadequate. I simply could not understand it’s relevance. If you’re stuck on ANOVA, check out some of the videos on youtube. It’ll help bring some logic to the overall concept.
Quants is probably the only topic that I thought was better in Schweser than the CFAI text.
Weird, I always thought quant was one of the easiest sections on the CFA. I have much more difficulty with remembering all the accounting rules.
@ Roflnadal - I am the complete opposite

I am a qualified accountant so that is my area of strength thanks everyone and thanks for the videos! agree one should not miss out a topic, but do wonder whether to focus on the larger areas and nail those rather than wasting time on quants!
QUANT BLOWWWWWWWWSSSSSSSSSSSSS. I left it last and now i’m forced to learn it :(. Here’s hoping its only 6 questions…
i always thought i was a quant guy, my professors simply called me “quant” and now i suffer with this quant in LII my problem with it is that I can not do anything I do not understand from the ground up. But if you wanted to do that with the quant material and know where every formula came from and why its done like that, you would probably be done by June 4th, 2012 So I been leaving quant aside, and in the last week I am going to learn it and do the problems like a monkey would for the most part…just applying formulas without deep understanding
If someone is not feeling confident on quant I suggest watching Bionic turtle videos of FRM exam . When I took FRM in 2009 I faced similar problem the concepts were just not sinking in so I studied Gujarati (Essentials of econometrics) which was a suggested reading by GARP and later I watched the videos of bionic turtle , now I am not feeling all that bad studying L2 quant (most of it is a overlap from FRM exam quant) . Infact I started L2 prep with quant . Most BT videos are found in youtube , however I am willing to share FRM 2009 BT videos . all the best
Bionic Turtle videos are really great. Also, KhanAcademy on YouTube.
Guys its easy to get intimated by a topic, more so since the time left is less. However, the discussion will be more productive if people are willing to put in the effort and find out what is it that they really don’t understand? I studied econometrics from Gujarati (enough for L2) and wouldn’t mind answering specific queries (for first 2 chapters)…am sure there are others willing to help too. Also, use Schweser. The condensed aerial view will go miles to aid understanding… ATB
hmm, i think leaving it out of level I might come back to haunt you. I am starting it now. I can hardly contain my joy and excitement.
I got “D” for my math in college (Not distinction) But after going through Schweser Videos everything was clear Particularly time series. The professor is Andrew Holmes. I am sure everyone enjoys his video lectures
