I am assuming that I have not passed the L2 exam and am debating retaking it next year since it is not really essential in my line of work. If I do decide to retake it, I am thinking the best strategy would be to start studying no earlier than February and only doing practice questions and mock exams since I spent several months reading the books this year. Also, I feel that 90% of what I learned occurred in the last four weeks when I was only doing practice questions. What do you think? Does this sound like a reasonable approach?
it’s not the approach i would take. if i didn’t pass i would probably think that my study of the curriculum had some srious holes and would be looking to fill those up before starting practice questions and mocks,… just my 2c. good luck
I wanna start early as soon as the Curriculum comes out, then Study from Curriculum , finish properly in 4 months. Take my own notes, formulae sheets while studying, CFAI EOC Questions + Schweser EOC - Daily 2 hrs on Weekdays (morning since i work) and 4-5 hrs on Weekends(Saturdays and Sundays) would be enough i think. Practice practice practice exams Revision from Schweser , will take 3 months and practice exams Mock Tests + CFAI Test 11th hr. Guide , just before exam. This is how L2 can be nailed i think. Many people say its difficult to remember everything, i remembered everything during exam, just that had not practiced enough. IMHO only Schweser is not enough, its way to easy in there. Just one doubt, i m thinking about joining classes (weekends), is it a good idea?
Starting in February is a bad idea. If you REALLY want to pass this, start before January and get through the material quickly. The key is to REVIEW what you went over. That is, if you go through Quant in December, review it briefly one day in Jan/Feb/Mar so it stays fresh in your head. And of course… questions, questions, questions… Repetition is the key for Level 2. This is my second try. I and confident I did better than last year, but better than Band 6 does not a pass equal.
Mastering the CFA curriculum’s End of the Chapter Questions is a key imho. If I were you I would try to go over them three times or so.
Mistake I think. Just go for it from the minute you know. Do not leave it to chance. I failed level two first time and had already enrolled for the FRM exam so had to concentrate on that until the end of November. Had a couple of weeks off and then took up the CFA again. I had forgotten it. It took me until at least february to get back to where I was and the blow to my confidence for failing the first exam I had ever failed was not helping. I passed the second time but I didn;t know for certain. Do what you have to do man! Make sure.
October is a perfect time to start I think.
I’m a retaker and myself I was going to restart studying in September. then it turned into October, and I kinda started, but it was real light, maybe once a week. then in late november was when I really started. seemed to work out cuz I ended up passing. won’t be taking L3 until 2014 though since I start a 2 yr mba in september. I feel like i barely passed, so I needed that much time. February sounds a little tight, January might be better imo, but I don’t know you, how you learn, or how good your memory is, so who am I to say? All I will say is good luck next year
January is way too tight. You want to start this year. There really is just no harm from starting as early as possible, worst case, you’ll know it better.
