Range of AM scores

What is the average AM score for the real exam?

What is the score of the 10th and 90th percentile AM score?

Legend has it 70% is 90th percentile, but there’s no possible way to know this for sure.

This was posted on the thread for 2018 exam last year.

Some things to gather from the AM :

  • The top 90% was about 65-68% correct (it is well below the 70% bue dash line).
  • The bottom 10% was about 25-35% correct (it is well below the 50% black dash line)

Contrast that to PM last year:

  • The top 90% was well above 70%, most likely 85%ish
  • The bottom 10% was about 58% correct.

reaffirms what we all know which is the MPS is around 61, and if youre getting a 60 on your essay and a 75 on MC then you will pass by quite a bit. we should be aiming for 65s on the essays and 80s on MC.

How do you figure? the top 90% on the AM is about 66%… how did u get 61% MPS LOL… MPS is more like 50%

i meant the MPS for the exam. you need to get 61%ish of 360 points. the “MPS” for the essay is probably 92/180 or so, the “MPS” for the multiple choice is probably around 41/60 correct.

to me, and maybe Im alone in this, whats almost as disconcerting as the difficulty of the AM, is the very real notion that a 42/60 on the MC is no longer considered a good score like it was at Level 2. among passers, a 50th percentile score on the multiple choice is probably something beastly, like a 47/60 or something.

Man that’s reasonable. We should be able to pull of a 61% with 5 or more months of studying this stuff. It’s strange, I feel a lot more confident at this stage than I did for L2 but the material is just broad and in a lot of cases open to interpretation. There’s also no precedent for equity because it’s new. Really hoping the bulk of that is in the PM.

I think the AM is where you can pick up marks on the field. Mock mock mock… but the fact my attention span is nearing 3 minutes at this stage it’s hard to keep doing these damn tests. Anyways, just my little rant.

wow. that item set is very high. That looks like an average closer to 70%, which is nuts.

also, the 10th percentile scored so high!

from my astute abilities as an analyst (ok, I’m jk I don’t know jack sht) - it’s thag, this all paints the picture that the level 3 pm exam, is really not difficult and they’re not honestly trying to trick us.

L3 retaker here and I would agree. PM was considerably easier than I expected, putting that much more importance on the AM score.

Is it common for you to do well on the AM, but poorly on the PM?

It feels like preparing for the AM will also prepare you for the PM.

Can’t remember where I saw it…but sources say 90% of candidates do better on the PM. Have you done a full mock exam under timed condition yet? PM is way more relaxing - you can actually read the questions in a regular pace, grab a glass of water and use the bathroom and still have plenty of time left. Last year I had to use the bathroom in the morning and that was kinda stressful - I saw someone dashing and it made me wanna dash too.

I am just gonna be realistic and aim for mid 50s in the AM and 70 in the PM.

Well lets not discount the fact that the Institute can change the MPS as well. It’s never static. So rather than generalizing on a 60-61% MPS and assuming a pass above it, its better to just go in all guns blazing (preparing as well as possible).

Do no apply L1-L2 “rule of thumb” (2 correct answers for 1 incorrect) to L3. Competition on L3 is much more higher, as % of desperate retakers is also higher))

As for me, I’m retaker, and I was slightly below 50% on AM and around 73% on PM. Guess I failed on the margin, as I saw pretty similar results for people who passed

Better to target at least 65%.

thats terrifying to hear, i would be curious as to how you felt leaving the exam. From what i saw on pass fail matricies last year, once you hit over 50 in the AM and 70 in the PM you pass, how far below 50 do you think AM was? And what were you mocking AM last year?

Target 60% on the AM and 75% on the PM.

Trust me, AM is tough and you need all the practice you can get to even get 50%. MC questions already have the answers on the paper. All you need is to find the right answer. The essay requires you to pull answers from memory or out of your ass. Remember, it’s time constrained and you need every last minutes.

My personal experience is that I practiced the AM mocks from 2012-2017 and barely did any PM mocks. My AM mock scores were consistently less than 50%, but my last one on the 2017 was 55%. My actual AM score was spot on at 55-56%. I left 3 minor parts blank in the exam.

Thanks for your input.

lollll

@125mph… is this the actual result from last year’s L3?
