Reasons to love NYC

1.) Anything can be delivered at anytime. 2.) Always something to do 3.) You can walk pretty much anywhere. 4.) Transportation costs + Rent is usually less than or very similar to living in the suburbs. 5.) There is something for everyone. 6.) There’s a thriving art scene, which if you aren’t in to that, also tends to attract attractive women. 7.) In keeping with 6, this is the fashion capital of north america, which tends to attract a lot of hot women. 8.) Food. Lots of it. 9.) The vast array of neighborhoods, which can fit pretty much any life style / budget. 10.) The architecture 11.) The parks. 12.) It’s very close to the catskills, and you can take the MTA up for a day hike for about 20 dollars round trip. 13.) It’s an ocean city, and if you live in the right neighborhood ocean breezes move off the sea in the morning. 14.) Free concerts, pretty much every weekend. 15.) Free stuff to do all the time. I’ll add more to this later.

thank you!

  1. is only applicable to the suburbs of NYC. I’ve lived and worked outside of NYC. Made less than I do now, had a much nicer apartment and had a nice new car. Cost of the rent, car, gas, insurance, etc. were still significantly below the cost of a smaller, older apartment and a monthly MTA card. If you’re comparing to the NYC suburbs, correct. If you live in White Plains you can get a nicer place, but you will offset most of that gain with the cost of your MetroNorth pass. There are very few cities (SF, BOS, etc…) where you can’t get a nicer place + a car for less than the cost of a decent apartment in Manhattan.

JTLD actually makes a fair point with the architecture: there are certainly beautiful examples, but overall its unimpressive. In that sense, I greatly prefer Chicago.

  1. A lot of ugly chicks but also a lot of HOT chicks of the caliber you will not find anywhere else on the planet 17) Pay attention mo34 and JOE2010 – no matter your race, religion, appearance, etc. you will never feel like an outsider here 18) You can get sh!tfaced 24/7 and never have to worry about driving home drunk 19) You tell people outside of the city that you’re from NYC and they automatically assume you’re a baller 20) Spring, summer, and fall are great for being outdoors 21) Christmas season is beautiful even if you’re Jewish 22) No matter how sh!tty the economy is you can find a job, even if it’s delivering takeout Chinese food for $2/hr + tips 23) You can fly direct to more places in the world than most any other city 24) Some of the best private schools and public magnet schools in the country 25) If you are brilliant and hard working there are plenty of people here who will perform at the high level that you expect 26) If you are stupid and lazy there are plenty of people here who will make you look brilliant and hard working by comparison 27) KarenC’s got your city at the top of her list of places to visit 28) You’re a quick flight or train ride away from several other major cities such as Boston, Philly, and Washington 29) If you’re looking for a job there are hundreds of headhunters that serve almost every industry 30) People from other cities find reasons to come visit you

In terms of comparison, your absolutely correct. I lived in Chicago and its architecture blows New York out of the water, but New York is the only city I know of with five skylines (Lower Manhattan, mid Manhattan, Jersey, Brooklyn and Queens). I had dinner with my girlfriend last night on her rooftop looking out over Manhattan, and as Woody Allen says “It’s Really a Knockout, you know.”

  1. you can go to the bar on a friday night until 4am and pick up your snowboard and jump on the 4:30am bus to VT which includes roundrip transportation and a lift ticket for $80 (http://www.emiliosskishop.com/). you pass out on the bus, slammed and wake up to fresh powder. 32) central park in the summer 33) free booze everyday (http://nyc.myopenbar.com/) 34) motivated / interesting people around everywhere you go
  1. Probably the only place in the world where people from “any color or race, caste or creed” can make it big–no glass ceiling. A melting pot in a true sense.
  1. You are a quick walk or subway ride away from hundreds of landmarks that most people only get to see on tv.
  1. Concerts: Best spot for Music on the east coast 38) Pro Sports - 8 pro teams, and you’re only 2 hours from Philadelphia, where you can watch a real baseball team play.

Pretty close to AC or Mohegan

Yes, 4 consecutive from 80-83.
