Recommended study order

I am a newly minted L3 candidate and was wondering if anyone has input regarding the order in which to study the material. Does Level 3 build on previously discussed material from study session to study session? In other words, will I be at a disadvantage if I study the books out of order.

Just curious, I realize it all has to be studied in the end anyway.

Cheers.

Start with v1…progress in order through v6

yes

agree with L3Bol

CFAI structured the material in THIS (and not in a different) order not without reason, I guess. Why not follow it? Just read from v1 to v6 and you’ll be just fine. Good luck!

Great, thank you for all the comments. I appreciate the advice and will follow the material as prescribed.

Congrats to all those who were recently successful on L3!

I always leave ethics for last. Other than that I went in order. GIPS is important to study last as well.

I studied derivatives first so I could have time to review it at least 3-4 times prior to exam date since that was my weakest area. You should study whatever you’re weakest first.

I did SS3 to SS18 then Ethics in the last week.

For all three levels, I did the study sessions in the order they were presented, with the exception of ethics which I saved for last.

1.First collect past CFAI AM test examinations from last 4 years and CFAI model answers.

  1. Review the questions and model answers to see what is expected by CFAI in AM examination at Level 3 from you.

  2. Plan your study for Level 3

Thanks for the advice. How do we go about collecting old AM exams? I didn’t realize CFAI released any info related to any of their exams anymore… I’ll definitely have to do that.

The old exams is under CFA website. I knew at least one post has the link. You could try the search functionality.

Wow… I’m a little embarrassed that they were that easy to find. For anyone else who is looking, CFAI’s website has the info you need, just search for year and essay. (“2010 essay”)
