fuk amurica and fuk coke, qatar airlines ftw

Fifa’s model of making the country foot all the expenses and keeping the profits and T.V right deals is going to need a rethink i feel.

After today’s allegations, looks like FIFA will have a vote once again for the 2022 tourney.

Meh, All this is rather boring and predictable.

FIFA are a corrupt, self serving organization that exploits goodwill generated from the tournament to line their pockets. Blatter and his cronies have been laughing their way to the banks for years. We have a real opportunity to go after them now given the hard evidence of corruption which has surfaced and make them more open and accountable yet everyone just seems to be content to take away the world cup from Qatar.

This is nothing more than a power struggle. I wouldn’t be surprised if someone within FIFA itself leaked those douments hoping to oust Blatter.

What player in American football can take over a game?

^Peyton Manning.

Need proof? Just look at what happened to the Colts when they lost him for a year. They went from perennial Super Bowl contenders to #1 draft pick.

Coke has done a really good job at capitalizing on sensationalism lately. The superbowl commercial really was emotion packed. That one posted about phoning home as well. They’ve definitely pivoted from polar bears.

There is no football player who can take over a game. Even a QB couldn’t do what he does without a good receiver/line.

I vote to host that tournament anywhere women can wear shorts or whatever else.

When Peyton starts lining up at both QB and MLB, he’ll have a chance to take over a game.

US came in second in the voting, so bring the WC here in 2022.

What happened in this year’s SB then? He’s obviously a great player, but he plays in a team sport.

He didn’t take over? Just because he can take over a game doesn’t mean he does it every game.

If having a good games means you can “take over” then your list is going to be pretty big. Tons of people spike in football. Tavon Austin (who?) can “take over.” He had 2 touchdowns week 2 and another 2 week 10! He takes over games (when he wants because he doesn’t need to do it every game).

Manning is incredibly talented and can dominate defenses at times, but he can do absolutely nothing to stop the other team from scoring other than to hold onto the ball as long as possible. Lebron James on the other hand, can score almost at will and can also take the other team’s best scorer out of the game. That’s not a knock on Manning, he’s one of twenty-two guys and is only on the field 1/2 the time. Lebron is one of five and is on the court almost 90% of the game.

There isn’t a QB or any other offensive position in the game that can single handedly dominate a game or decide te outcome without a quality O-Line. Manziel had a solid O-Line and Evans to throw to. If you take away Evans he doesn’t win the Heisman. Cam Newton had a very solid O-Line as well. If you think otherwise you likely have either never played or don’t understand American football.

I would say that a defensive player can possibly have a game changing impact because of the ability to create turnovers and stops. But without a cohesive D-Line, any offense will be able to generate 1st downs just by rushing into the secondary, so realistically, you need a good squad there too.

^I fully agree with the above. There’s no good quarterback without good receivers and O-line, and there’s no good defensive secondary without a good pass rush.

And I said “Peyton Manning” half in jest, because like HIggs said, Manning’s not able to play defense. But if you look at what happens when he’s NOT around…he took an 8-8 Denver team to 14-2, and the Indianapolis Colts totally fell apart without him.

EDIT - I was trying to think if there’s any other NFL player that has had this much impact on his team. Maybe Lawrence Taylor or Emmitt Smith.

I too agree, but it’s really hard to say who makes who look good. Manning holds on to the ball far less than your average QB. You don’t need a great O Line to protect you if you’re only asking them to block for 2.4 seconds. I’d argue that Denver’s O Line is average at best, but Manning just doesn’t get sacked. I believe that’s more of a function of his style of play than great blocking. Then people look at the stats and assume Denver’s OL is one of the best in the league…

And as for people to throw to? Again, I’d say a great QB (Manning, Brady) have the ability to take very average receivers and make them pro bowlers. Really, Pierre Garcon?

But, no one is perfect. Manning is the closest human being alive to being able to take over a NFL game. However, as Seattle showed us, defenses still win games. As much as the NFL would like us to think it’s all about high-flying passes, nothing can beat a great D in the end.

PS - Speaking of “taking over” I’d like to take this moment to give a shout out to 'Murica for taking a lame thread about futball and turning it into a discussion about a real sport.

Which US city bid for it again? Hopefully they do get it

I want to go a world cup but wouldn’t go to russia or qatar and can’t wait until 2026.

According to Vegas, Manning has the most impact on the gambling line than any other player. The line swings by 14 pts if for whatever reason he cannot dress.

I believe there were at least 20 suitable sites listed in the US’s bid, with Jerry World the likely host for the final.
