Registration Opened?

When you log onto your CFAI account and click register for exam what do you see? I saw register for L2 but when I click it, it say’s I can’t because I already registered and where it says order, it shows my original order for the 2010 books…anyone see register for L3? doubt this means anything but just wanted to see if anyone saw the same thing?

You wont be able to register until the results are posted from the previous exam… then it will update to L3 or clear it and go back to L2

thanks athanas! i got worried

Thats how I knew that I passed L1… As I was checking the results last year, I noticed that it said Register for L2…

This was the process from 2 years ago as i understand it. I don’t think it applied last year when we were waiting for L1 results… For starters, if you go to cfainstitute.org and sign in (or click the monstrous link at the bottom of this email) you will see your candidate home page. It has five major sections with a variety of links under each section. The sections are “Profile, CFA Program, CIPM Program, Membership, Customer Service”. Under the CFA Program section, the first link for you should read “Register for Level X Exam” or something to that effect. The rest of the discussion will center around this link. In prior years when CFAi would update everyone’s accounts their IT people would do a staged rollout. Basically the weekend before (usually the Saturday before) they would go through the candidates accounts in sections and update their links prior to publically announcing their grades. After completing the update process later that evening, the IT people would use a function to essentially hide the link I referred to above so that on results day they could simply “unhide” those links and all would be revealed. So the time in which you could figure out results was limited to that transitory window after the links had been updated and before they were hidden. If you click on the link I referred to above, you will be taken to a screen with a series of checked boxes. The last checked box in that list reads “Level X CFA Examination Registration” or something to that effect. As long as that box is still checked (referring to the exam you just took), your account has not yet been updated. If the box is unchecked, then your account has been updated. So the possilities are as follows: 1.) If the link reads “Register for Level II CFA Exam” you can be reasonably sure that your account has been updated and you have passed. 2.) If the link reads “Register for Level I CFA Exam” and clicking on it reveals the last box in the list is unchecked, then your account has been updated and you have failed. 3.) If the link reads “Register for Level I CFA Exam” and clicking on it indicates that the final box in the list is checked, then your account has not yet been updated and you are unsure. The timing is the hardest thing to catch as you only have a few hours. Typically it’s easiest just to keep an eye on analystforum.com and wait for someone to point it out, they seem to catch it most years. It has worked for me each year and I’ve never heard of a case in which the results were contradictory. I’ve heard rumor that they may have altered their process this year (2009 L1 results) to avoid leaking the information.

wow I can see myself obsessing over this. . . we need to devise a way to let everyone know if someone catches this. how big is the window?

OR… enjoy your last couple of days in ignorance. There is a certain amount of bliss in not knowing.

That happened in 2008 the weekend before we were to find out it said register for L3! I was so pumped. I think they have since fixed that.

^^ I think you are right. All fixed now, no need to stress over it. 11 days left. I’m gonna forget about it hopefully until the end of next week. The real stress will be waiting on monday. Think it hits at midnight? 7am? 10am? noon?

If some candidates get it first but other don’t (for minutes or hours), CFAI could get deluged with panicked inquiries via phone and their website would still likely get clogged up.

Yup, exactly what time will they send us the email on 26th July?

their mass emailing will probably be generated randomly through a batch server… it doesn’t make sense (although it is convenient!) to send out emails based on, say, an alphabetical listing. i’m guessing the range will be wide, from morning to late noon (EST). i just hope i get it before everyone else :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m assuming you will be able to check the website and see if you can register for level III earlier in the morning… so if the email doesn’t come, we might be able to check that.

It will be torture for me all day! I am located in Middle East, thus 9 am in USA means 4 pm here. Which means after all the day’s stress, I still might not get the email when they’d send it out in batches. Actually they might do so based on Candidate numbers, rather than the name.

Mine simply says this Level II Personal Info, Address Info, Professional Profile, Professional Conduct Inquiry, Professional Conduct Statement, Candidate Responsibility Statement, and Exam Registration all with checks

In one of those annoying e-mails that we all got reminding us of the results on 7/26 I recall reading something like the registration for exams will be closed until 7/27. I guess this means that the only way of getting ones results will be to patiently wait out the e-mail. Also the online score will be accessible on the next day. So there is still no official way to trick CFAI into disclosing results early.
