Residual Income and Ethics

There was a qestion in the RI session about capitalizing R&D related. What was that question and choices? Also, combining CFA ethics code with company code. In the CFA book it says firms can do that (Volume 1, page 9, 5 para), we referred this when we developed some ethics codes before.

What seems to be confusing about CFA & firm codes is the extent to which the codes can be combined. I believe it is appropriate to physically include the CFA code within a company policy manual (as many firms do), but not copy or plagiarize the CFA Code or indicate it is the firm’s code without referencing CFAI as source.

I read in the CFA book that you cannot combine the code of ethics…they should be separate from eachother.

I hope your wrong… for my exam’s sake

I went with ‘combining was fine’ - did I lose 1 more here?

>I read in the CFA book that you cannot combine the code of ethics…they should be separate from eachother. __________ Whatever. Please reference or quote it, because I’m not sold. Thinking logically, many firms (including mine) include the CFA Code within their proprietary policy manual. Furthermore, a lot of firm’s adopt the CFA Code as their own (which should be a good thing, right?). I just don’t see how CFAI could have a problem with this, as long as the firm acknowledges the Code is CFA’s.

use search, you can combine

I’ve heard a couple others say this too but I want evidence as well. Give me a page number. Otherwise it’s another +1 for me and Dinesh both! MUAHAHAHAHAHA

you can definately combine it. there is nothing mentioned in the cfa book that you cannot.

Yea Dwight +1 if we cam combine them together!

ugh, you guys are killng me. I need a few +1’s myself. I thought there was something about not putting the two together. Whatever, I can’t remember anymore

nope, nothing mentioned. you can add a +1!

You can combine them. I remember coming across a practice question like this. Some guy posted the quote from CFAI book which encourages you to incorporate the code of ethics into compliance policy… can’t remember what page it was on but I checked and it’s there…

Volume 1(ethics, quant, econ), page 9, paragraph 5. Also, you don’t need to refer CFA society if you combine, but preferred.

Under Responsibilities to Supervisors, recommened procedures there something. Don’t recall the question, but its says no to combining company compliance procedures and code of ethics

Is it just me or is page 9 paragraph 5 also the start of an “optional reading” section of the CFAI texts.

Don’t recall the > question, but its says no to combining company > compliance procedures and code of ethics This para talks about why firm shouldn’t commingle their own compliance procedure with the firms code of ethics. As far I remember the question talked about mixing CFA code and standards with the firms code and standards, so I guess it should be ok.

could we get confirmation on that (what were they mixing). CFA ethics and the company’s code of ethics, or CFA ethics/company ethics and the company compliance procedures?

so what were the RI answers/questions? a)31 b)-3000 c)capitalizing or whatever it was d)1.83 (P/B) e) ?and f)?
