Resume Review

I have updated my resume and have loaded it to Razume for your review. See: http://www.razume.com/documents/15301

This actually looks not bad. After a brief read, my only comments are: 1. Your university degree and TA stuff shouldn’t fall under the “CFA Institute” header. 2. I would put your BS above the CFA Level 3 line. It seems weird to emphasize your CFA program participation over your actual university degree. 3. Put in some results of your work if you think it will fit. For instance, “Designed new reporting system” might look better as “Designed new reporting system that is twice as efficient”, or something like that. It’s a grey area, so do what you think looks best. Good luck.

Very good resume, only suggestion- missing a ‘d’ under the S&P description “using advanceD spreadsheet functions.” Minor but probably worth fixing. Generally speaking, I think resumes have gotten to the point where, while certainly useful and necessary in job hunting, they don’t provide much information. Nailing buzzwords and inflating duties to make every task sound like rocket science and every contribution vital to the company’s success is the norm. Half the resumes I look at I have no idea what they tangibly do on a daily basis, and descriptions never hint at having any down time which is a most certainly commonplace for a lot of jobs (browsing AF during the workday, for example…self-included). No wonder all the issues of online privacy are such hot button issues - seems peoples’ facebook pages are more representative of a person than their resume and God forbid an employer see that rather than the utopian resume representation. Pardon my rant, and rtp this certainly isn’t directed towards you, just my thoughts on resumes in general. Guess that’s the nature of the beast, but seems to be trending more this way now that there’s a whole field of study and occupations relating to resume writing strategies.

I read your first piece of work experience and stopped. So much fluff I couldn’t stand it. If the rest is chock full of buzz word non sense than I would consider including descriptions that actually make sense and explain what you do instead of trying to sound smart. “Productize market data service” Come on!

(i did not go ivy league or anything) also, if trying to make somewhat of a directional shift career-wise, could you ever put CFA and rest of edu ABOVE work exp even if you’ve been working for a couple of years already? i’m worried that people looking at my resume might not even see the CFA if they dont like the work exp

im a purist - if it aint formal education, it dont belong in education. otherwise it seems that you are trying to push the cfa study into people’s faces.

Hopefully in a few months we’ll be identifying our participation in the CFA program as simply 3 letters following our name.

where did it go?

had to move it, will repost
