Reviewing Methods

just curious how everyone go about reviewing as they progress through the new reading materials?

CFAI questions and passmaster.

cfai questions are a BEAST. it’s painful to go through with that much detail

JR, you impress me. I have yet to do any passmaster questions…definately worried. I have done CFAI text Q’s on Ethics and about to finish Eco tonite. Not yet Quant, but end of Stalla books which are like 9 q’s…oh No…I need moral boost…there is no way I will make it w/o passmaster q’s yet draggin ma feet. Start FSA1 over the weekend. Help wanted…hahhah

Anyone use analystnotes?

Work through 360 exam-style questions from 2xSchweser and 2xStalla books at rate of roughly 8-a-day to highlight areas of strength/weakness. Failed questions get reviewed several times over for repetition. Schweser Secret Sauce (when it finally arrives) on public transport every day. Qualitative stuff (Ethics, PM, Alt. Inv. etc.) 30mins in bed before lights-out. 2wks prior to exam taken off work as holiday to take CFAI official review exams, and check CFAI text books for areas missed/covered lightly in prior L2 exams (which has been a point of much discussion). Solid 10hrs a day minimum. Early nights, early(ish) starts. Caffeine is cut out entirely during this period (harms ability to concentrate for prolonged periods) and simple carbs are scaled down to a minimum for same reason. On the day, I do revise during lunch as I have found this very helpful during the L1 exam. This is my life for the 3-and-a-bit months : /

make sure I completely understand the material, then quiz all the questions-stalla book, qbank, and course provider. Then at the end in may i’ll do practice exams and go back over as many qns as I can.

23adam, I just know I don’t have time to reread the material after I’m done with all the books. So def have to make sure I know it 110% before moving on to the next subject. This way when I go back and review for when I get questions wrong on the practice tests, it’s just a review not a day wasted on rereading the chapter. You can read and read and read all u want but if you’re not really learning or retaining, what’s the point? right?

Farina You are god… i can not believe you are going to do this (if you are already not doing it.) Fast forward in Aug 09 …If there is only one person that passes the exam i know for sure who it is… i can only dream of this type of review…

Farina , how do you like the Schweser Secret Sauce? how would you compare it with your own study notes?

Well said JP… Tackle it piecemeal by piecemeal Make sure you understand this topic before moving on…Peter’s quote. I agree, reading is not enough,if you can’t answer the q’s, I know this, just don’t have the moral to do Passmaster, no idea why…any suggestions to rid this mental block? thanks bro. I’ve not got the Secret Sauce book yet, Schweser said when I ordered “…available March '09”. I’ve never seen one, but have heard a lot of very good things about it. It’s just a condensed, bullet-point syllabus of common/likely exam areas and things most people have trouble with. I studied with 7City (LDN) for 1 and they gave you a similar thing which was very helpful. Only thing is the looks of disdain from other commuters but I’m not bothered : ) I hope I pass the exam, that way I can have some time off. I’m doing trainee-doctor type hours at not-for-profit IB at the moment and I’m certain 5hrs-a-night isn’t good for the brain in terms of learning and retention. I’ve been getting up extra early and going to bed extra late to squeeze in 3hrs a day but it takes it’s toll, both on the body and relationships : (

JP…How did you handle FSA SS readings, was Stalla enough? Sometimes am not sure if Stalla vs. CFA text becoz some sections like Forex Eco…they had the same number of the pages, so I opted for CFA text for Forex and currency rates and Stalla for the rest of the eco material. What are your thoughts on FSA reading material, which I think you have already cleared, based on your past postings of course. Tks. 23adam Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Well said JP… > > Tackle it piecemeal by piecemeal > > Make sure you understand this topic before moving > on…Peter’s quote.
