Sample exam 1 - Q 20 & 21

Why wasn’t the pro-rata share of the net income of AFS & HFT stocks added to the contribution towards net income? Only the dividends of AFS & HFT and the unrealized loss were (and the prorata NI from the minority active stock)?

For AFS and HFT, only dividends and unrealized (for HFT) and realized (for AFS) go on the income statement. They didn’t sell any stock so there are no realized gains. AFS and HFT stocks don’t generate income. Only for ownership in companies classified to be consolidated under Equity method do you add a pro-rate share of net income to the income statement.

Awesome, thank you!!!
