Schweser, Stalla or Elan for CFA L2?

hey peeps. Jus wanted some opinions from L2 or L3 candidates please. Which of the supplementary providers materials did u prefer for L2 and why? Need to start budgeting 4 L2 books. Thanx in advance.

The search function.

just use schweser

Schweser - notes and exams only. Q-bank is worthless for this level - spend that money on CFA sample and BSAS mock.

I had Stalla and Schweser from a friend I would say Schweser is better. I agree re the q-bank. I did think the BSAS sucked hardly any of their item sets were on the exam. Use Schweser notes and mock exams, CFAI EOC’s, mocks and samples, and do it all over again then pray.

i used stalla and complemented it with doing CFAI EOC questions…the real key is CFAI EOC, no questions asked.

Whatever route you decide, definitely… definitely purchase the Stalla Videos. IMO, they are priceless. There is nothing like reading a topic and questioning if it was written in a foreign language. In most cases, instructor lead videos/classes ensure you will at least get your head around the core concepts of each reading.

aslamdt:Currently Elan does not provide study materials for Level 2, I think we will know by the end of next week which one ( Eleventh Hour or Video series) they will provide… Hopefuly we get the whole package. cpepin: Since you had used both Schweser and Stalla, I would really appreciate if you could elaborate what makes Schweser better than Stalla? Are the notes better, what about the video series? Have any one of you tried Schweser’s Secret Sauce and Stalla’s Essential Facts and formulas for Level 2 ? How different are they? Thanks

Just talked with Elan Guides and this is what they said: Congratulations on passing the CFA Level I exam, and thank you for expressing an interest in our Level II products. Unfortunately, we will not be able to offer our entire line of products for June 2011 Level II candidates. The Level II products that we will release for June 2011 candidates are: 1. The Eleventh Hour Review Guide 2. Mock Exams 3. Lecture videos for Fixed Income, Derivatives and possibly FRA. We will start taking orders for our Level II products later this year. Rest assured that all our products will be sold at very affordable prices. Sample videos will also go up later this year. We are deeply sorry that we will not have all our Level II products ready for you. However, we are confident that the entire range of Level II products (including Élan Study Notes) will be ready for June 2012 Level II candidates. Congratulations once again, and best of luck with Level II Regards, Élan Guides

Just received the same message !!

I studied in this order - all CFAI books first - take notes too - take Q-bank questions after each SS just as a refresher - breeze through Schweser since CFA reading should be good enough to put the concepts through your head. - do one revision from CFAI notes and Schweser - mocks - revise important formulas - mocks exam !

So from what I hear, looks like Schweser (w/ Qbank) and EOC questions are the way to go. Ordering mine now. We have a big year ahead. Congrats to all those who passed L2 and for those looking ahead to it, lets do this.

schweser is all you need. method begin right after the new year. read through schweser once. take notes along the way just to help retention. time it so you finish the first read by april 1st. then, read through it again, taking notes again and doing q-banks along the way. start taking schweser practice tests a month out. review your weak points following a practice test. really understand what you are messing up. keep drilling the q-bank til the end. pass schweser covers at least 90% of the material. if you know this 90% cold, you will pass. dont let CFAI note lovers tell you that “one year there was a whole item set on something that was only a paragraph in the cfai books.” well guess what, you wouldnt have remembered that paragraph anyway. btw there was only one question on the test that schweser didnt prepare me for this year (ibbotson chen.) luckily I read about it on AF. its all about drilling the concepts and seeing the material at least twice. a luxury you probably wont have if you are reading the novels that are the cfai books.

thanx 4 all the advice people. Wil go 4 Schweser then. Stil undecided on Q Bank tho, since it seems that there is a mixed reaction to usefulness of Q Bank 4 L2?
