I find myself able to answer nearly all the EOC questions just from spending an hour on the vid.
Also, L2 doesnt actually seem that hard? i have read so much stuff about the material being brutal, but it seems like a fairly easy transition from L1?
Did anyone load the ebooks from CFAI onto their ipad? I know that the ipad has a nice feature called ‘voice over’ that will read text to you (activate in settings). Curious if it works on the CFAI ebooks. As long as we are paying people to read to us…
Agree with Hank M. There might be few topics in patches that require good application but largely its the breadth that kills n so the retention. @ iPad question - it does work, however its little awkward to use. I prefer reading. Nevertheless, ‘voice over’ does what is supposed to.
To the OP, I’m using Schweser videos and just finished the first lecture. Andrew Holmes does a great job and I was very impressed how he got through Quant. I thinkthe more angles you hit this from the better. I.e. do the readings, flashchards, q banks, practice tests and videos. I’m basically just overloading my brain with Level II stuff so something will stick
I’ve used Schweser vids for L1 CFA and Parts 1 & 2 FRM. Love them. I definitely prefer watching the videos to learning any other way. My only comment would be to avoid the online courses as these are presumably the same as the videos (a friend used it for L1 and the slides are the same) and timing wise I’d definitely want to be finished the course well before the online course finishes. I’d also agree with MissCleo, you need to hit the material again and again to retain enough of it for the exam. I like watching the videos in the gym, I know if I can pay attention and follow whats going on whilst having keeping a good pace for an hour or so I’ve got a good grip of the subject.
I have only been through the Quant videos and they do seem to be very well-structured - CFAI EOC questions should be the litmus test, haven’t been through them yet.
I only use the videos for review. Once you read books 3, 4, and 5, you start to forget what was in book 2. Watching videos from Book 2 are helpful refreshers
I guess I am looking for a comparison between Peter Olinto and the Schweser instructors. Stalla’s been bought by Kaplan Schweser, and they will incorporate Stalla material starting with the 2013 exams.
Yea, look here: https://www.schweser.com/cfa/instruction/video_instruction.php I actually tried a complementary video of the Quant stuff yesterday. In my opinion (and this is just that, my opinion), Schweser’s videos are amateurish compared to Stalla’s videos. Even their markings on the slides during instruction are like reading a two-year old’s scribbles on a wall. I really hope they incorporate Stalla’s material quickly.
