Getting a master’s or even a law degree would probably be better.
Can you tell us what Top 20-40 school you attended?
No, but it’s really “don’t ask don’t tell”. It’s not permitted, but they don’t do a background check. It may be ok for a no-name program, but not for a great program like Harvard/Columbia/U-Phoenix. I went to an MSF program and a classmate tried to apply for an MBA. They wouldn’t let him because he had an emba from a crappy program (right out of ug). When I applied for an MBA (top 10) the app specifically asked if I already had an mba.

Just dont say anyhting about having the first MBA, and maybe the school wont find out?
It sounds like you dont need the education so much as the contacts and assistance with HR. Perhaps you should spend the time and money working with a good head hunter instead.

I was also considering this for the same reasons a few years back and ultimately decided that it was not worth the investment. I have since considered going back for a law degree, getting my CFA, Masters in Accounting/CPA, or anything else to help close the gap. In the end, not even attempting to go to a top 10 MBA was probably one of my biggest regrets…but such is life. I just have to keep my head down and plow forward, whether it is realistic or not, I like to believe that with enough hard work and perseverence, that I will be able to accomplish my goals, top 10 MBA or not…it has been done before. Best, TheChad
Why not a PhD…or JD? I would look down on someone who appears to be going in circles. Don’t get anchored to IB…many people work hard to achieve that “coveted job” then are miserable and hate their lives…concentrate on some area that you can add unique value…and you will probable earn IB level income and be happier…

maddane Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Just dont say anyhting about having the first MBA, > and maybe the school wont find out? I asked the same question to an admission counselor at NYU. She started laughing and replied that we will get that information when we’ll run the background check. Please don’t waste the application fee.
I am curious…how do these background checking firms find out where you went to school, worked etc if you do not disclose? Is this info out there in the public record somewhere?

They can get the information on your background like what school you went to, how much loan you took for education etc. In my previous job, HR asked me to send him a copy of my graduate certificate as my resume has the right spelling of my school but she wrote the wrong spelling in form and background check company couldn’t find that school in US.
I don’t get it…don’t the schools require you to submit an official transcript from your schools? Isn’t that proof enough??? Also SS# can determine what firms you worked for and what positions you held? Thanks.

Thanks. Here we are talking about second MBA. They want your undergrad transcripts and previous degrees. But if someone hides his first MBA, it can be found out by background check. If you are an international student, you can hide your first MBA if that is from your own country and not in US. I am not sure about Positions but yes they can find out what company you used to work for through background check.
After reading this question, you obviously did not learn about “diminishing returns”, so what would make you think you can get a finance job! An Ibanking analyst job at 31 (Post 2nd MBA). Are you mental? Are you a bilthering fool who has no common sense? Sorry if I’m being rude, but I have read many of these stupid posts from people who are gravel just to be an analyst? Someone who looks at spreadsheets, get treated like crap, and doesn’t have a life because he/she is working 80hrs a week! For what? Take inventory of your life, man. Don’t get a 2nd MBA?!

Uhh, you start as an associate after an mba. And associates make a couple hundred grand a year for the first few years and then get fantastic opportunites to move elsewhere.
