[Share]I brought the cellphone in the FRM exam room....

I am really careless… I just forgot to put it in the storage room… and carelessly did not notice that it is not allowed to bring in the exam room… I just turned it off and put it under the chair as if i was doing right at the very beginning of the exam, the examiner came and said that i violated the rules they will report this thing to FRM precisely (a cell phone was off and was discovered under my chair during the exam) Just want to ask… Is it sure that I am disqualified now? really sad today…as I have plan lots of things to do after these half year de-socialize hell life style… now, what is in front of me is waiting for another hell :frowning: Just an advise to everyone who will take the CFA exam in the coming december it is better to leave your cell phone at home… when you are in high tension or 200% focusing on the exam even though you know that you are not allowed to bring it into the exam room, at that moment, you may not care the minor things except the exam and will do the silly things like me today…

Sorry to hear man, but as focused as I am when I do things like take exams, work out, or have you know, I never lose my attention to detail and forget to take care of things like not disqualify myself from an exam, not drop weights on myself, or not forget to gift wrap my you know. Anyways, it’s the FRM, big f-ing deal. It’s like the University of Phoenix failing a student out and not collecting tuition…just doesn’t happen.

Stop using an ellipsis (…) everytime it pops to your mind.

But you are definitely allowed to twist the language in any way you want, my dear.

@evonne_j, You mentioned that the invigilator noticed your cellphone right at the beginning of the exam. So assuming that he still permitted to take the exam and sit for both sessions, I believe that you can keep fingers crossed and hope (against hope?) that this is not reported. Can you clarify what happened once he noticed it? Whether he took the cellphone and returned once the exam was over? Or did he let it stay there? Also, as IHIHM pointed, passing the FRM is not really a very big deal for job-search, and I can say that as a candidate who has himself cleared the FRM exam. In any case, Wish you Best of Luck.

anupamjain008 yes, at the very beginning of the exam, but it was right after the start of the exam. I think it was just 5min after the exam started as I have only done 2MC questions. the examiner took my cellphone, told me that it was not allowed to bring into the test room at that time after the exam, they returned it to me, but told me that they will report precisely what have happened to GARP, i asked what they will report, they said the wordings will include “cell phone is off” “under the chair of the candidate” “found it during the exam time” I know it is not a big deal for job search, but I really spent lots of time on it, give up lots of my life with friends and family, I regret I have done this silly thing to make my effort becomes worthless :frowning:

I never understood this whole “give up friends and family for 12 years” thing when people are studying for exams. I blew away all three levels of the CFA without having to sacrifice more than 3-4 weekends of socializing. I studied after work when I would usually be watching tv, playing video games, or surfing p0rn. On the weekends I would study with my gf who would hang out and do her own thing but we were still together all the time. At night I would still go out and see friends, family, etc. It was only during the last couple weekends in May that I would go into lockdown. So no, I don’t commiserate with anyone who says they have to put themselves through solitary confinement to pass an exam.

iheartiheartmath thanks anyway I was confident to pass it before now, finger crossing should I e-mail to GARP and confirm what will be the treatment of my case?

If the FRM institute are as retarded as the CFA institute, they will gladly void your exam. These idiots are just too happy to screw people up. Your name might also be published on some list. The type of stuff that makes me regret ever enrolling into these garbage programmes.

You won’t necessarily be disqualified. I have a friend who did something similar for CFA L3 and she just received a warning letter about a month later. Anyway, it’s out of your hands now. Just forget it until you actually hear something back. Don’t email the people - it’s pointless and will annoy them.

What perplexes me most is why the title of this thread starts with [Share].

Two cell phones rang in the middle of the exam at the Jacob Javits Center in NY. They were on the side of the room so couldn’t tell who they belonged to and invigilators didn’t grab the bag they were in. Sure was annoying.

“+1, exactly why I don’t want the CAIA or FRM blemishing my resume.” “The type of stuff that makes me regret ever enrolling into these garbage programmes.” So what do you guys recommend? PhD from a top 10 university? Not everyone can join a hedge fund or top investment bank straight out of undergraduate. While the CAIA and FRM have some obvious limits I found I learned quite a lot from both. Also the FRM is Far from easy. Many people don’t show up at all since they know they won’t pass, or they skip the afternoon entirely, claiming to friends and co-workers they weren’t able to study, it’s not worth it, doing something else or some other excuse. While GARP provides advertises a pass rate of 42.4% last year, the real pass rate was 3,984 passing candidates out of 13,681 candidates registered, 29.1%. I would say there’s some value in that considering that many people for whom the FRM is relevant wouldn’t even consider registering.

Proctors said nothing. BTW, lights went off for 4 mins at the Houston FRM Centre. It was dark… poor arrangements on top of terrible exam.
