True, but…A) I expense everything so I don’t care if a cabbie tries to scam me; and, 2) while I love the idea of the subway, I have one major problem with it - no matter the time of year, it’s hotter than hell waiting for a train and I tend to sweat in suits. True story, it was an amazingly hot July day and I chose to take the subway for some dumb reason. I had no idea it would be 127 degrees down on the platform and by the time the train arrived about five minutes later I was completely topless. I didn’t want to sweat through my dress shirt and probably even my suit coat so I took them off. Gotta say to the credit of native New Yorkers, they didn’t seem to take any notice. They see stranger shit on an hourly basis.
And, for the record, I’m fairly in-shape. I just don’t react well to high temp and humidity.
Our bodies(including the way our brain consumes oxygen)is designed to run away from tigers and lions not dance(dancing is ok,its just not cardio)
The main purpose of weights is to be heavy, something which is heavy is not heavy if you can lift it more than 5 times,if you use weights for above that rep its not the best method to increase your strenght hence your muscle tone
Most programs are designed by steroid junkies, regardless of your level of fitness if you dont take them train with a different system
Exactly how many tigers and lions do you have to run away from? (Me–none.)
Exactly how much do you need to lift on a daily basis in order to adequately perform your job and have a good home life? (Me–I had to pick up a ream of paper today, so I need to lift about 3-4 pounds.)
How fast/long do you need to be able to run? How good does your cardio system need to be? (Me–I need to be able to walk from the parking lot to the elevator and push the button to go up one floor.)
Well of course there are far more easier ways to do the stuff that you are doing:)
However if one seeks to improve their fitness levels they should remember what I have just said.
The same is true for our brains, humans seem to be getting dumber at some ordinary everyday tasks, while there are people out there who have mentally challenging jobs like most guys at AF,the average joe has outsourced many of his daily tasks to computers making him use this vital organ less and less.
I think you will feel the difference in your daily life once you begin a decent workout
Fitness is about optimal gene expression which depends on how we evolved. So the point about doing workouts (and eating) in line with our evolution is the way to optimal health, maximizing quality life span, etc. at least that’s what the primal lifestyle preaches. I’ve found that my mood and general health (and strength gains) have been greatly enhanced by adjusting my diet and training to be more in line with it.
@Mark1440-If by lifting you mean for the pas 8 years and at least 3 times a week then yes I do lift.by the way I have tried numerous work out routines,I am actually an Qualified kettlebell and power lifting instructor.
I have also boxed and thai boxed for the past 15 years,so I think I know a thing or two about lifting
It’s amazing to me how many people on an anonymous internet forum claim to be 6’4 200 and ripped. In real life Chad towers over everyone with his massive height, but on this site he’s just a pipsqueak compared to all the dudes here who can bench 500 and run a 3 minute mile.
I do Stronglifts 5x5 with 2-3mi running on offdays. Earlier I used to run 5mi/day + other stuff, but got nowhere in terms of fitness. (but had a great resting heart rate!). So I switched to weightlifting, and I weigh the same.
I’m with Geo on eating - I too have a similar diet. It’s much easier to cook than you’d expect. Just chop some vegetables, anything for protein (eggs meat etc etc), add some pepper, garlic, salt, shove it in the grill for a few mins and tadaaaa.
I have not eaten anything packaged or processed since new year’s
I run a different routine every 8 to 12 weeks that typically involves an hour of lifting followed by 20 minutes of running.
I have a home gym. Nothing special but it works great for me. I’m up at 5:45 each weekday and out the door by 7:30. Incline/decline bench with leg extension/curl attachment, 10-90 lb dumbbells, 300 lb barbell set, power rack with pull-up bar and dip bars, resistance bands, treadmill, and exercise bike.
The current routine is mon: chest & back tue: arms wed: legs thur: shoulders fri: chest & back sat: legs My diet philosophy has always been don’t eat like an idiot. It’s served me well. That being said, I don’t think I eat frequently enough.
