Should Quant be skipped?

Hey guys as exam is near, our memory is being stressed out, for Quant session there are just too many things to remember and with a 5% weightage, is it wise to skip it and focus on fatter LORs? I feel the Quant questions often ridiculously difficult in the exam, so even if study super hard there is high chance that may get 3-4 questions right only and that is only like 3% for a huge reading!!!

dont skip quant. its just 3 readings.

If you need to skip any topics, should be either quant or econ. Both give you the least value, as they are fairly complicated (IMO) with little weighting. Should try to memorize some formulas though so you at least have a shot.

The problem is the Quant qustions are so difficult that even though I can do very well in EOC or practice test, I still have to guess in the exam, so I just feel like the time and effort put in it is too much

Escoleru, are you talking from experience? Because someone on another thread said Quant questions are easy points. If the questions are actually very hard, I doubt it makes sense for me to do it now.

@Symbian, I cannot speak on others, but to me it is real hard, out of 6 questions, 2 will be relatively easy and the rest are like coming from a foot note or something. If I totally skip it and just guess on the difficult ones, it is not much statistically difference because the weightage is only 3%

Quant is killing me!

I’ll beg to differ. The quants questions i have tried so far are pretty straightforward. Maybe it is just me, but I also find the timeseries chapter to be easiest of the lot. All you have to remember are different types of regression equations under various models, types of tests for different kind of violations and the way to correct them.

The only trick i noticed in one of the exams was that they didn’t provide the standard errors in the table and asked you to calculate the confidence interval. All that need to be done was to compute the standard errors from the given values of coefficient and the t-test and then plug it in the confidence interval formula.

For those who are still struggling and want to give quants one last shot, then i’d honestly advise you to watch the Elan videos. They are free and done by Basit and he has done an extremely brilliant job on them.

Each person has their own strengths and weaknesses. At some point in your preparation, I think it’s wise to decide to focus your remaining time in areas where you are most likely to benefit. Efficiently studying to raise your overall grade when you have limited become really important.

Shweser and Elans practice/mock questions on Quant are biased predictor, I have seen Quant question that I do not know where the hell that come from

I totally agree with you. I have given up on economics!

I have only advised about watching the Elan’s videos, just so that one get the hang of those readings. For practicing, just solve the CFAI EOCs and vignettes of past CFAI mocks.

Listen to me only if you have enough time, as it is really just 5% of the exam.

I thought quant was 5-10%? That is, either 1 or 2 vignettes.

I think you’re better off skipping econ than quant. With the quant section, it’s a givin that multiple regression is going to be on the exam. With econ, who knows. Maybe triangular arbitrage. Plus, the econ sections are spread all over the place, wheras the quant section is more focued, and easier to get a hold of.

I’m doing the same. Quant is not my thing and I know that the energy that I use to master it will detract from my other sections. Using that time to focus on the Big 3.
