With you on number 2 and 3. But Having a suggestion thread would create a lot of spam. Maybe open it for a week around Christmas. That way we can aggregate all our suggestions on how to improve analyst forum.
What happened to the private message button? Could’ve sworn that was here a few months ago
I am not asking for moderators to read every message or intervene every indecent thread, just remind AFers to think twice before posting something that is over the line.
Kinda agree. Not every act of intervention is a quasi stifling of one’s freedom of expression and sometimes people just need to be reminded of the fact that they are in breach of taste or common courtesy. On the other hand, many peeps on this forum are probably sensible enough to take most posts in the water cooler with a pinch of salt anyways,so meh,
I know, I have come across only one instance where I felt that things crossed into downright explicit category. So yes, it’s quite rare. But when it does happen, some sort of system to downvote it or something would be nice.
Thanks for all of the feedback. It is very helpful. I did setup a “Feedback Forum” section a few weeks ago. The “like” system will be a priority in 2013 now that some of the backend stuff is cleaned up. Stay tuned. I will look into why the “new” link is not directing you to the new posts. The old “PM” system was being hit by spammers so I will see if there is a better alternative out there.
Thumbs up/down isn’t the best way to go, but it’s a step in the right direction. If you go that route, make it so the post goes invisible after reaching a certain net-negative score, but still clickable to view if the user wants to see it. If people really find posts offensive they’ll get downvoted and hidden. If they don’t get downvoted but a member still finds them offensive, maybe they’ll learn they need thicker skin.
Maybe. But if downvoting is because of political disagreements rather than obscene or offensive material, I don’t think it should disappear: it should just register that lots of people disagree.
It wouldn’t disappear, just hidden. Go to Reddit and browse around for a little while. They do it right.
Besides, in theory, you wouldn’t downvote/dislike a post simply because you don’t agree with it. You downvote posts that are wildly off-topic, offensive, rude, or just plain dumb.
The thing with reddit, though, is that it’s sometimes difficult to follow conversations. Sometimes you have to follow the reponses to a comment, sometimes you look at additional comments.
Here, each comment is in order of when it was posted, so you can easily follow the flow of the conversation. With AF, reading the full conversations often offers much more value than just reading the most valuable comment. AF conversations offer much more thought exploration than a typical reddit one.
Unfortunately, I offer no real solution, since I like the idea of a voting system, especially for the individual level forums.
I like how WSO has banana’s, so you can basically throw rep at people. That way we can see who the reputable users are.
Another thing is, every season, there’s a flood of posts about what the best study method is for each exam. It’d be nice if we could have a dedicated sticky thread in each cfa subforum discussing what works (from third party prep to hours studying to practice questions, etc). Maybe an ongoing poll or something too.
