Slacking off at work

Anyone else feeling completely disinterested with work at the minute? Work seems like such an unwanted distraction getting in the way of studying.

I don’t know how long I can survive here before someone realizes that all I do all day is check AF, hit online QBank, and consume ink and paper printing CFA related material. When is someone going to realize I do sweet FA all day long, take 2 hour lunches on another floor studying, and leave at 5?

My manager sits next to me, and basically watches my screen all day long. beat me smiley

How’s your review going?

I am doing the exact same thing here…

My team sits behind me so no can do…

A person I know who is sitting level 2 is taking a month off beforehand.

I don’t know how you can be focused and get any benefit from studying all day at work and afterwards lol Work works as a study break. Luckily this next couple of weeks my assignment deals with some of the formulas and things in the CFA curriculm, so that’ll be good

I slack so much! All I do is check AF…print off my cheat sheet…revise my plan…do questions from the printed exam questions…

I feel a little bit bad, but hey; less than 4 weeks to go!

It’s definitely got to the point where the day job becomes a bit of an inconvenience.

I spent the morning reading a report and all I could think was ‘why am I reading this when i need to read the rest of econ and do some fra revision!?!?!?!’

20+ days of annual leave? What kind of job does he have lol…

I wish i could take off more days to study. I’m just taking two for the boot camp this weekend and then the week before the exam…I glance over notes throughout the day if I have time, but it’s busy at work so it’s hard to

I haven’t really had the chance to slack because I moved into a new position last month, but I have my box of notecards sitting next to my keyboard and flip through a few every chance I get. The good thing is my boss and co-worker are both charterholders now, and another co-worker is taking Level III this year, so they understand what it takes to pass these exams. Last year I worked in a department where no one had a clue about the CFA designation, so they weren’t as understanding of my slacking and taking time off for a test.

Seriously … even i am surprised how people manage to get a whole month off just to prepare for the exam

And i also wonder if this isnt a warning sign in the current difficult environment … doesnt this reflect how redundant you are … given that your firm can manage without you for an entire month …

I wouldnt like my manager to think on those lines

We just posted our audited financials for 2012. I’m the only accountant (although I have no accounting background) for 2 of our 3 subsidiaries and we are publicly traded. The last 2 months have been brutal. Starting today, I’m going to let my inbox and to-do list pile up and I’m going to try to sneak in a few hours of QBank questions in at work every day. I’ll deal with work again in 28 days.

I trust that you meant “uninterested” (apathetic), not “disinterested” (impartial).

Either way, get back to work.

wink

First day of work after your CFA exam: Bring a box. wink

MP3 audio notes + computer headphones = studying when it looks like you’re working

You are all fired.

Hey you guys are killing me. Now I’m demoralized. All I’ve done is study at kids’ sporting games (five young kids, all in 1 or 2 sports) and after 10 PM. I’m 100% commission, so I don’t study at work or I’ll starve…

Student here. Have some finals this week, and still currently working part time (20 hours/week). But starting next week, I’m done with school and work. Nothing else to do but study for 3 weeks. Going to be kind of nice given my normal school/work/study schedule.

how does MP3 audio notes work?

She’s taking leave without pay for 3 weeks and then annual leave for another 5 days.

Wish I could do it… although apparently taking more than 2 weeks off for anything is a very career limiting move.
