Snow Day

77 degrees in San Antonio suckers…

Pansies - Calgary has 2 feet of snow on the ground, temperature is -34 and I’ve been walking to work all week uphill both ways mind you).

Second snow day in a row for me! The roads around my place do not get plowed/sanded so all the snow that fell yesterday and the previous night has now frozen into a solid sheet of ice. I have a lot to do so I’m thinking about heading out around noon, we’ll see though. I don’t need to crash on the way out of my neighborhood.

Snowing like a maniac in NYC…

You pansies. I am in chicago and am at work. its like a snow, sleet, mud bath out there. wore jeans. i dont care if they like it or not. wore my thick ski jacket as well, long snow boots, knee high wool socks, boxers.

Also, whats all this teacher talk? Come on, would you really rather deal with whiney little kids than pick stocks? Some of my friends are teachers and there isn’t enough money in this world that I’d accept to teach some of their students after hearing their horror stories…

Their horror stories are nothing, they leave each day and dont have a single worry on their mind! Ask a teacher what keeps them up at night, and they’ll say Heartburn from red sauce. Not their job or markets, etc. King_Kong you lucky bastard, its now snowing pretty nice in CT.

L3 Buckaroo Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > ^ Is that because you fall under the category of > “those who can’t…?” Donno why I couldn’t. what I do want is to be a professor, but I will need to get a PhD for that. So in that sense I cant I think this late in the game. I could still teach at some community college though.

In teaching, it’s very nice to have the summers. However, don’t think for a moment that just because schools let out around 3pm that teachers’ days end there too. Papers have to be graded, classwork needs to be planned, students with problems need to be addressed, parents need to have their hands held, whiny students and their parents need to be bowed down to for risk of firing. Remember also that teachers have to a arrive at school in time for classes to start, usually by 8am or 8:15 or so. So they need to be there usually around 7:30am. Compared to financial jobs, that may sound luxurious, but compared to other jobs in that pay range, it’s early. Remember also that in some areas, students come with guns to class. And, in middle school and upwards, students may accuse you of sexual harassment “just for the fun of it” (not to say the real thing doesn’t happen, which is another issue).

Where are you guys in CT? No snow in the northern part of the state! I’d love to be a university prof…that would be a cool gig. They also make good money. I’d have to take a pay cut to do it, but figure I could probably pick up some consulting work to make up for the difference.

Bchad, this has been asked many times I am sure but please state it again. How do I go about becoming a professor? I don’t have a PhD. I am a credentialed actuary and CFA charterholder. I would love to teach math, finance, investments etc. Is it possible?

haha! You’re gonna shoot your eye out! What does it say? “Drink your Ovaltine”

i’ve always wanted to teach when i retire. i’d go for with a private school - safer, smaller, easier to discipline kids, 18 year olds in skirts all day. other than a slightly lower pay rate, private’s the way to go

24 hours of a christmas story!!!

talking about 18yr olds in skirts and privates in the same paragraph is risque
