So Harvard hates me....

Yeah, sucks after the amount of work put in, but that is sunk cost. Honestly, you should just get some capital and start a rafting company. You’re not going to get rich, most likely, but you will probably get happy.

Thanks guys for the nice words, in hindsight the lesson to take away from my lack of success is to probably choose your target schools more wisely / appropriately (Stanford and Harvard were not a good expenditure of my time) so your eggs aren’t stuck all in one basket. But as Brainwash alluded to and my Dad pointed out, it may be a helpful bump keeping me on track with the outdoor clothing company or some other thing in life.

Sorry to hear that BS. I know how it feels (0/5 last year), and it really sucks.

Bourbon makes the feelings go away for a short time, but then they come back stronger than ever.

F’em, you dont need 'em. Spring is nearly here; go smoke a spliff on a raft, or if you are me, have unprotected intercourse with a Tyrolian college student.

That’s a good way to take your mind off of B-school. Doubtful that you’ll be thinking of anything other than impending fatherhood or catching rotchacockoff.

In a thread full of inflammatory remarks, this has gotta be surprisingly high on the list.

But it’s true, right? Not all black people are descended from slaves. Therefore, slavery did not affect all black people in the same way. Logically, this is one way to rank how different black people were affected by slavery. You could even argue that the descendants of slaves are better off than they would have been if their ancestors had not been slaves, if slavery is the vector that transplanted all these people into Western countries. Why this is offensive, I don’t know. Why should it be offensive to suggest that not all people were affected by slavery, or that slavery had some positive benefits in addition to negative benefits?

I typically avoid getting involved with this topic because of the blowback potential. I am under the impression that Africans were predominantly captured and sold into slavery by other Africans, the US just provided secondary market liquidity. Also, from a strictly economic perspective I think it’s fair to argue that for some currently living in the US may be better than living in Rwanda or whatever. That being said, I will state the obvious that it was a terrible and shameful period of American history.

^ Yeah, that’s all pretty obvious.

Don’t know how many of you have actually been to Africa. I have. Been all over. It’s no picnic.

In sub-saharan Africa, there is a direct positive correlation between quality of life and how many white people still live in a given African country. The moment the white population is driven out. BAM, game over. Won’t postulate why. I have no idea.

Still, this argument doesn’t excuse slavery, obviously. Yada, yada, yada, yada.

But I really think most African Americans probably aren’t victims of slavery. In any case not much more than the Irish living in America are victims of the English and their genocidal famine. Jim Crowe much more so.

Nah, CT even forgot to multiply by 3/5.

^ Oops gotta multiply it by the beta. Classic rookie cfa level 1 and highschool AP US History mistake.

DId you know it used to be called, “The Federal Ratio?” That’s probably the one ratio that the CFA didn’t decide to put on the level 2 finra section.

C vs M, you gotta defend your manhood. Yesterday Blake called out Numi and Numi didn’t back down.

He didn’t? News to me. The thread I read was of a guy who has years of work experience and never itemized his taxes living in an expensive state which indicates that he doesn’t make much money. And then on top of that graduated in May and didn’t find a job until November. And then I also seem to remember him making a thread about wanting equity in that job and the PM laughing in his face. Seems legit, why would a PM give anyone equity who is junior, doesn’t make much money, and was probably at his wits end looking for a job since he couldn’t find one like his fellow alumni. And the PM made the correct decision. Numi accepted his offer.

That’s the thread I read.

Time to read the itemizing taxes thread now…

You might have not liked his answer, but he didn’t pretend not to see the post. On the other hand C vs M is MIA. I will give him the benefit of the doubt for now. Maybe he is pounding something, which can distract even the best of us from the board.

With a post like this, I think you’ve further proven that you’ve never actually been an investment professional. If you really worked as an investment professional at some point in your career, you’d know that most hedge funds are about “just in time” hiring. Aside from the largest long-only funds, most of them don’t have the visibility to anticipate hiring needs many months in advance.

You already know that the school I attended has one of the broadest alumni bases of any on the buy-side. This means that I don’t have to take the first or second offer that comes along. Instead, I take my time to find a place where I can excel, get along with the people, and really enjoy what I do. I know you’re the kind of guy that shoots from the hip, and I know it troubles you to show some respect for other people. However, most people are unlike you in that they a bit more disciplined about the things that they say or do. But hey, maybe you can prove me wrong – I challenge you to show your fellow AF members seven posts that would suggest that you had any investment insights. You have 694 posts on this forum; I’m just asking you to show us that 1% of your postings here actually add value. This should be easy for someone like you that talks such a big game, right?

Another difference between me and you is that I’ve actually been through a contract negotiation that involved a discussion concerning equity. There are plenty of other levers in addition to equity that can be pulled in order to make a contract work. When you get to the VP+ level some day, I’d be happy to have an informed conversation with you about what those levers are. I just want to make sure you show up prepared with some real notes to compare, even though I can appreciate the humor you’re bringing to the table now.

In the meantime, I recommend that you read up and educate yourself on AnalystForum, mergersandinqusitions.com, and whatever other sites you find informative. Try to learn from people that actually know what they’re talking about, and that actually work in the industry. I know you couldn’t hack it in finance before and ultimately dropped out/got fired from the industry, but it’s never too late to try to get back in. But you really should brush up on your skills first; otherwise, you’re just bringing a knife to a gunfight.

Good luck to you, sir.

P.S. Please let me know if I’m not being gentlemanly here – I think feedback is a gift. I’m trying really hard not to embarrass you too badly.

Numi, are you mad brah?

It is almost 2:00 am in NYC now. Why are you up and in particular responding to this post?

I have been a regular member of AIMR to CFAI from 1999 to 2009 (i stopped paying dues). If this is the direction you want to go did you even graduate college then my friend?

You have indicated you make nothing. This is irrefutable. You have zero comprehension of the US tax system. If I were you I would give it up. You are a zip and phony.

I’m actually not going to be in North America for the next few days, but thanks for asking. (Be forewarned…I won’t be checking posts here as I normally would, so you’ll have to go troll someone else.) But since I’m feeling gracious today, I’ll make you a deal: if you can actually land a job as an investment professional, I’ll invite you to come hang out with me next time I travel abroad and we can chat about whatever is troubling you over a few beers. This is my gift to you.

I’m also happy that I asked my question about personal income taxes. There were people on this forum that clearly understand those issues better than I do, and I’m thankful for their thoughts. But I don’t want you to feel left out of the party, so next year you can help me with my tax filings. Sound good? Thanks mate.

P.S. I’m NOT going to tell you what my compensation package is, no matter how many ways you try to pry it out of me

cant we all just get along?

This is a very interesting development. Also, for what it’s worth Numi, as a confirmed zip I’d give my left nut to swap careers / pedigrees with you, thus making you non-zip material.

What if Numi and Blake were really the same person?
