Well, for the moment no one is next. Round 3 deadlines are up. So at this point, I’m gonna cool my jets and start looking forward and considering what next. The waste of time is a bit frustrating (GMAT, Applications, Essays, Interview, it adds up), and obviously it’s dissapointing, but I doubt I’m the first person rejected from these schools so now it’s time to deal.

I’m trying to figure out what percentage of today’s african american population actually is descended from slaves. I’m finding very different findings on the internet. That’s to be expected, because I’m sure its a hard thing to figure out. However, I’m seeing as low as 5 percent and as high as 99 percent with a definite skew towards the higher number (median around 85 percent)…
In any case, I find it very hard that, more than 50 percent of blacks living in America today could be descendants of American slavery considering the number who would have immigrated from places like Jamaica since the 13th Amendment.
Now, I know that that we might all have a tiny bit of slave in us, the same way that I am 1/16 Native American on my business school applications without photos. (If I get caught I’ll tell them that I thought they meant Indian, as in Dots, not feathers)
However, it must be possible to make a decent estimate of what the weighted average of slave descendant in the black community must be. For example, say half your family came from Jamaica, and the other half were direct slave descendants you would be half slave. You could then add that up do the weighted average of the whole portfolio of black people.
I’d also be curious to know what percentage of african american people are descendants of slaves during the 89 years that it was legal in the United States history where it was illegal in the North.
Is it 99 percent? Hmm, that sounds high. But I really wonder if its even 70?
