Soft Dollars Question

If you do business with a Mutual Fund as an investment advisor, and they help pay for things such as seminars or reasearch for the advisor’s company, is this considered soft dollars arrangement? I am assuming it would only be allowed for research, and that a seminar they help pay for would not be allowed (assuming this is in fact considered soft dollars).

does it directly benefit the client? if not, then it is not allowed

soft$ was so level 2

Mcap - I agree 100%. I guess my question is: is a mutual fund company helping pay for a seminar techinically considered soft dollars? Im just a bit confused as to whether this would fall into the definition.
