Stalla??

Whether for the good reasons or bad reasons… Everyone talks about Schweser on this forum. Thats a good indication to me that Schweser is way popular among CFA Candidates than Stalla and peers. I am one of those who believe that a combination of study prep and CFAI Materials is the best way to approach the exam. So my questions for you guys in LEVEL 2, WOULD YOU ADVISE Going Stalla/Schweser + CFAI. I know some of you will say " use the search" option because this has been discussed earlier in the forum , however I believe that its still a valid issue… I would appreciate your comments/advice

Read CFA Texts, Read Schweser book Do Finquiz questions Read CFA Texts Read Schweser books Do Schweser Q-Bank Do Schweser Mock Reread Schweser notes. Do CFA Mock Redo bad sections. I will guarantee you will pass. The Finquiz questions were very good almost exactly what was on the test.

I’m assuming you’re taking L2 in June 2011. I wouldn’t touch the 3rd party study guides until after you read the CFAI text.

Schweser is cheaper than Stalla which is probably why people prefer it. I went the Stalla route. I like their format, the videos are definitely better than Schweser’s.

Thanks guys! Paraguay, your strategy looks neat to me, I’ll do my due diligence on Finquiz Questions. So stalla is a no-no? Any ideas on Schweser Secret Sauce for Level 2( Yeah I’ll be giving it in 2011)?

Jlive, does stalla’s Essential fact similar to Schweser secret sauce? Elan Guides Eleventh Hour is AMAZING, however they have only LEVEL 1 materials, which is a shame!

Stalla and Schweser basically use the same approach. With that said, Stalla has better videos and Schweser has better practice exams. It depends on what you want.

I didnt get Stalla’s I figured the SS was enough so I can’t comment on it. SS for L2 was a waste mostly this year

Rehix, Study solely from the CFA texts. After just completing the L2 exam and having it beat me black and blue, I would advise you to stay away from Stalla and Schweser for your core study material. Definitely use their question banks and practice exams but I wouldn’t use them for more.

I actually liked studying from Stalla and I don’t think there was any question on the exam which sounded unfamiliar. For Practice, i would rely more on CFAI EOCs, samples, mocks. To drill in the concepts and practicing more for calculations I would try passmaster/Q Bank in addition.

I really loved the FSA text from Stalla (and loved their videos from all the subjects).

I bought Stalla passmaster, didn’t use it a whole lot, only for the condensed LOS readings. If you have the time just stick to CFAI material.

I totally agree with you Chucrox8, that CFAI texts should be your core materials. But I also believe stalla/schweser’s condensed important concepts in a way that make it easier to remember. A strategy that might work well for me might not for someone else, its important to know your options and opt for the one that is the best fit for you. It might be a combination of CFAI + Stalla( Videos, notes, mocks) + Schweser ( Secret Sauce, Q Bank) + Finquiz( as mentioned by Paraguay) + … That’s the reason I think that the issue of Stalla vs Schweser vs Peers is still valid. The more we know about them, the better a decision we can make about our study strategy.
