are waaaaaaaaaaaaaay harder than any other practice exams I’ve seen. Anyone else out there finding the same? Or am I just allergic to stalla?
I think Stalla’s are good. They seem to be right inline with the CFAI mocks and I’ve just been banging out mock and practice questions all week. I think stalla purposely makes its questions harder, which is a good thing IMO. I like the program
I’ve done 2 of the Stalla book exams (82% am, 87% pm for #1, just wrapped up #2 with 77% am and 85% pm). I like that they’re really trying to spread the material out to hit all the subjects and it’s a sobering reminder of how much stuff is game for the real exam. I agree that some of the questions are really hard, but I also think they’re trying to throw in a few gimmes into each vignette. I’ve found the Stalla book exams to be around the same difficulty as the CFAI Mock, but I found both to be far easier than the CFAI Samples (these you have to pay $40/each for, I scored 58% and 69%). I say this because I’ve seen other posters on the board who are re-takers from last year say that the 2009 CFAI Mock was significantly easier than the actual exam, so be prepared for an exam that it is even tougher than what you’re seeing now. What I learned really quickly from taking the multiple tests is that it’s not good enough to simply know formulas and rules. You may get one formula/rule question per vignette, but the rest of the questions make you apply the rule(s). Stalla is doing a good job of incorporating these types of multi-level thinking into their exams. I’m doing the last Stalla book exam tomorrow, then I am putting all Stalla material away and doing only CFAI questions since in the end it’s CFAI who writes the exam questions. I’ll probably revisit the CFAI Mock one more time and then just hit CFAI EOC’s in the areas where I’m still weak or have forgotten the material (alternatives, economics, capital budgeting).

I am one of those people. Tomorrow is already 2 days before the exam, not sure what value doing a practice exam will bring at this stage of the game.
