Stay at home or working spouse?

This is an important point that many people overlook. Kids need to learn how to be with other kids. They also need to start picking up common illnesses, or they’ll be home sick 1/2 the time when they finally start school.

man im learning a lot. i need to bookmark this thread for when i have kids.

good summary. we’re dealing with this now. we’re on our 4th kid and she kept going back for maternity benefits as it was necessary at the time. with 4 kids, her working is now a logistical nightmare and insanely expensive daycare wise, at least initially. we need to decide in the next year.

  1. wife doesn’t love her job but likes getting out of the house.

  2. she doesn’t make a ton (slightly above average).

  3. no family so daycare in the first year would be ~$3,200 per month. this alone i think seals the deal that her working is impossible until all kids are in school. if all are in school, day care would drop to ~$1,000 per month.

  4. she is on the wrong career path so would eventually be looking to switch paths if she stayed in the workforce.

Geez, I know Canada is an unpopulated wasteland, but get snipped already.

My wife has been obsessing about having a third kid. We are both early 40s, and both work full time. Aside from us being on the old side to have another kid, expenses would go up significantly and she would probably still need to work full time. Plus it would be a logistical challenge, having one kid in middle school, one in elementary school and then an infant (with both parents working full-time). She won’t come around to my way of thinking though – her arguments are that kids are cute and that we are only “average” if we have “just” two kids…

Someone’s going to have to pay for the healthcare of all the undocumented immigrants fleeing persecution in the US. Won’t be long either before all the unemployed factory workers who voted for Trump realize that they’ll be better off sneaking across the border too.

Start dissolving birthcontrol pills in your wife’s coffee.

This is true. 2 kids or less is average.

You have to be 3 kids or more to develop into a crazy wacky family.

Good idea. “Try this new coffee creamer honey – it’s great!”.

When I lived in the UK there was a TV show called 2.4 children (the average number of kids per family there I assume). Guess that makes us a little below average. We are a wacky enough family already!

Meanwhile wifey is giving him ground up T and Viagra in his creamer.

Speaking of spiking people’s cofffee, did anyone see that episode of KKK when Rob Kardashian drank a coffee his mom accidentally spiked with Viagra meant for Bruce? lol funny

Frank Arabia has seen it

Most of my older male colleagues have 3 kids. It seems to be a norm in USA. I don’t get it to be honest.

First you have to find yourself a good man. What’s the latest? Any potential life mates?

I think there are a couple of factors at play:

  1. Mom wants at least 1 daughter or dad wants at least 1 son and first 2 kids are the same sex so the parents decide to go for 1 more. 3rd kid is either the other sex, so no need to try again, or the parents decide 3 is enough.

  2. First 2 kids are close in age. When they get to be a bit older, wife gets depressed that her “babies” are growing up and convinces hubby to have 1 more.

Yeah me neither. I’m gonna go for 10.

i want 4 myself thats a life goal for me.

10 is ambitious. You probably need a team for that.
