Stella level 2 2010 vs 2011!!

hey guys, i just registered for level 2 and got the books… i dont plan on studying now, but i was flippin through the CFAI books and surely the material in level 1 is nothing compared to this bad boy… i plan to take the same approach as i did with level 1, though level 2 seems much more difficult than level 1… i didnt touch CFAI books durin my studies for level 1 and i dont plan on touchin them for level 2, unless necessary of coursen, and relied solely on Stella… anyway, the question is: since level 2 books are already out and stella’s are usually out late december, is it safe (taking amendments into consideration) to buy stella level 2 2010 and not wait till december for version 2011? i plan to start october/november. thanks in advance

I was in same boat for Level 1, i.e. never touched the CFAI books. But for Level 2, I used CFAI books for most of the areas especially Ethics, FRA, Equity, Corporate Finance. CFAI End of chapters questions were much more valuable than QBank or Passmaster.

the only time i went back to CFAI during level 1 was when i got stuck on Income Tax and some Econ material… I have a feeling that i will most likely go back to CFAI more often on level 2…

any suggestions guys?!

I’m pretty sure that Stalla has a deal going on for purchasing their study guides for L2 2k11 early. I believe if you purchase it early they will send you the 2010 material free of charge to hold you over until the 2011 guides are out.

I highly recommend focusing on CFAI text only.

I agree that focusing on CFAI text is good but there’s a lot of minutia in those books. I found that the Stalla review helped me navigate around the minutia and hammer down the most important aspects. I used a combination of both, but appreciated the fact that the Stalla course seperated the core curriculum from the stuff that you can spend a lot of wasted time on.

That and Peter Olinto is the man! Went to the mock exam and review in NYC before the exam and he was the instructor. Very nice guy. He does a good job in both the videos and in the mock preparation. Makes certain things a lot easier to understand. I’m using the Stalla again for L2 because it worked the first time, so I’m staying loyal.
