Stock Positioning on your personal portfolio

How big is your average trade and how long do you hold for?

Between $5k and $150k and hold forever ever ever.

$5K - $10K/trade Holding period ranges from a few months to years.

Open ended numbers don’t give much context. Maybe a better question is what % of your assets allocated to equities does your largest position represent.

99% FB

5% to 15%. I usually hold less than 10 cos. but i am just curious on the average trade size. and how often people get in and out of positions. min 8k per trade. ohai you really do 150k for 1 trade and hold that to forever?

Other 1%, Sell FB Calls. Gotta be hedged u know?

For retirement funds I just have passive ETFs that I don’t touch much.

I recently opened an account on the Robinhood app, though, to trade individual stocks for kicks (yes, I know that I won’t beat the market over the long term). My positions there are ~ $3k to $12k and are just short-term trading.

Eh, one of the Robin Hood guys is my college friend. Glad to see they didn’t become hobos after all.

can opened. worms all over.

i use robinhood for personal trading as well. Only have a small 5k account so nothing crazy, but it works well as I am only using limit orders and as I am holding longer term its not like execution is going to make or break me. Position sizing I usually aim for 5-15% for most of my holdings depending on how much I have in the sector. If I dont see anything appealing I usually get let it sit in an S&P500 etf and ride beta. I mainly use it as a long term investment account but like to take tactical investments when markets feel spooked.

I do something similar with my retirement account. Was considering just moving my IRAs over to Betterment and setting/forgetting the thing. I did reach out to them to see if there was any flexibility as far as allowing you to customize the weights and/or pick ETFs that fall outside of their off-the-shelf allocations… the answer was unsurprisingly no :frowning:

Trade between 5 and 100 k kids. The 100k trades were on BS’s stock recommendations . Never doing that again

I have a rule that I don’t trade any less than 20% of my portfolio value, so big trades. It makes you examine the hell out of opportunity cost, no dabbling, either go for it or wait for an opportunity that is worth that balls-deep move. Hold 1 month to 10+ years.

I find it so funny that you are going on and on with this. Pics of trade confirmation or it didn’t happen

I thought SUNE was going to be the next big thing for sure.

Really PA ? No offense (because I like you), but literally none of that ever happened.

I remember your threads about your derivative trades a few years back and you were treating that sh1t like a casino.

No way in hell you were putting 20 % of your worth in one of these crazy sh1ts. One of them was trading volatility I think. No offense but I doubt that you had a clue about wtf you were doing, m8.
