stock splits and stock dividend

What do they mean by this sentence “A stock dividend does require reclassification of retained earnings into paid-in-capital, while a stock does not require this reclassification.”?? - Dinesh S

I think you are missing in you sentence instead of stock - a stock split What happens with stock dividend is that retained earnings are reduced and common stock is issued therfore a reclassification of retained earnings into the paid capital(common stock) With a stock split the previous stock is paid in capital and the new stock (resulted from split) is still paid in capital
