Hi All, Having gone through all of the books I am really struggling to get to grips with the FSA section. I have read through both Schweser and CFA books on the topic, but it doesn’t seem to be “clicking”. Could anyone recommend any other books I might want to consider reading or any useful video tutorials (I find I learn better this way than through reading). Thanks!
hi max.ed, you know that schweser also offers video lectures? i’ve heard they aren’t that bad… other than that, try one of the better undergrad textbooks on accounting… since it’s very basic, albeit massive, stuff we need to learn for FSA in L1. i could recommend you a good german textbook (though rather graduate level and focused on ifrs) if you like, but i suppose you’re from an english speaking country so there’s no use in grabbing this one?
max, you can try to take a look at this memory tricks: http://www.acapfinance.com/CFA.html, i find it quite useful for memorizing FRA…
FSA is the lengthiest section for L1 with too many little details. So it is quite normal, don’t worry. Yeah going through schweser videos might be a good idea or try finding any free lectures on youtube.
It’s okay to leave FSA and come back to it later. Best not to get stuck on a subject and let it hold you up. There’s plenty of time for a 3rd or 4th re-read of FSA. Cheers
tell me about it, I have gone through the CFA FSA and the videos, still dont remember many things. US GAAP vs IFRS is such a pain, and calculating cash flow from income statement and balance sheet, capitalising vs expensing, ratios, still havent got a good grasp on many important concepts. just too much detail. but i guess the only way to improve is to spend more time on it. no easy way around it.
Whoa Gowentgone, that’s a pretty nice site you listed. Thanks!
Elan’s videos are great. They have some FRA samples up on their website too now I believe…
