Study Materials

If you could only pick one option as your sole resource for November part 1, would you choose BT w/ interactive quizzes or Schweser notes w/ qbank? Thanks!

Schweser, but you really should do both.

Thanks Destroyer. Think I’ll start w/ Schweser and see how far that gets me, hoping for some synergies after just sitting L2. Think the lower tier BT package is pretty reasonable if necessary.

For Part 1, Schweser is more than enough. Do it well and you should sail through. BT might help in the understanding of some obtuse concepts such as Forward Bucket '01 which Schweser barely explains. But then their importance from an exam standpoint is pretty diminished.

All,

I’ve also decided to sit for the Level 1 FRM exam. I bought the mid level BT package and it seems very thorough. That said, I know when using the ELAN material for the CFA, some of the information would take me down a rabbit hole and was not very representative of what was on the exam. Schweser’s mock exams, however, seemed to be very much on par with the actual exam even though some of the study material was thin in certain areas. Does BT fall into the same trap of producing solid study materials to learn the concepts yet falls short of represting the exam or is it adequate? I would like to learn as much as possible, but of course passing the exam is the ultimate goal.

Best

Sorry I’m also new to this FRM stuff and I’m yet to hear anyone talk about the actual GARP books. Are they not needed or what?

I’ve just received the GARP books in the mail today and I’m quite surprised. Thought they would be a collection of all the readings, but actually they seem to be rather condensed already. After CFA L2 the thinness of the books is a nice surprise…

I only used Schweser and i did well on Part I but their practice questions do a very poor job of preparing you for the actual exam. On a scale of 1-10, 10 being the most difficult Schweser’s questions are a 6 while the exam are a 10.
