Submitting Work Experience

I submitted my work experience earlier this week. When I click on ‘Check Application Status’, I see two rows. One is CFA Institute Membership Society Application, and the other is my local society’s application. The status on both rows is ‘Work Experience Review.’ When I click on the CFAI Application, it shows the experience that I submitted. When I select the Local Society row, it does not have any work experience there. Do I need to populate the local society field as well? Or is it sufficient to have the CFAI complete? Thanks.

I can’t believe we have to do all this shit. Can we not just copy and paste our damn resumes?

Yeah, I know eh? The other thing is that the month count doesn’t work…I worked somewhere from Sept-05 to Apr-07 (20 months), and May-07 to present at my current job (28 months). I noticed that it assumed I stopped the first job on Apr. 1, so it only counted 19 months, and it didn’t count Aug-09 as a month of employment at my current job since I submitted my experience on Aug. 31, i.e. before the month ended. Hopefully it will be over soon… In the interim, anybody know about the local society work exp? Do we need to populate it, or will they take the data from the CFAI field?

That’s how it is for me too, you are not alone.

does anyone know how long it actually takes for the local society to approve the exp ? … i see the countdown trickling down every day but refuse to believe that it actually takes 45 days to verify / approve my 10 lines. !!!

I emailed them to find out how long it typically takes and got this reply: “Your application is scheduled to be reviewed by the CFASF Board of Directors on September 16, 2009.” I guess I can stop refreshing the page every 10 minutes now.

cfa87, you are not alone. I have the same issue: the work experience in local society is empty to me too. I guess no worry for it.

I know that I read somewhere on the CFAI site that if you had two consecutive jobs you’re supposed to overlap the months (i.e. Sept-05 to Apr-07, then Apr-07 to Present), that way you’re not short changed on your experience.

I had my work experience approved a couple months back, and didn’t have to do anything for the local society. I applied for CFAI membership, and got approval for both CFAI and local society.

dumb question, I had 53 mos approved and 13 mos rejected (not enough detail was the citation). Any reason to provide more detail or would that be an unnecessary complication since I meet the minimum?

Thanks for this. I received a reply that my application was under local society review under affiliate membership (since I had 46/48 months), and I can upgrade to 48+ when the review is complete.

just see update in the update Under Review - Society: 44 days

Ridiculous how long it is taking these local societies to review work experience. It seems like those involved with the CFAI take pride in making life difficult for new members. These guys are so far up their own a***s they are disappearing.

The key is simple - CFAI is a 5-days-a-week working institution, so one can expect that his experience will be reviewed in some certain time (5 days on average) after submission. Most (if not all) local socities are not - they have some scheduled meetings, and review the applications made between two meeting dates. That’s why, e.g., me and another guy from the same society got it approved on the same day, at that he was waiting about 20 days, while I was waiting 5 days.

Hey Floridagator, Did I see in another post that you are in Tampa? I am also in Tampa, prepping for L3, I’d be interested in putting our heads together for this exam if you are. My email is danieljohnflaherty@gmail.com Thanks -dan

My understanding is (based on my conversation with other charters and customer service) that only the CFAI institute approves the work experience and the local society approves the membership based on the CFAI work experience approval. Am I correct?

unbelievable, this morning 42 days pending review. and just got email both CFA and local is approved.
