suggestions to study

Hi… I’m going to take the level 2 exam only in 2015. As I have time on my side I wish to start preparing ASAP. Everyone who has passed level 2 & all those who are preparing for level 2 currently please do provide me with your valuable advice as I want to cover every concept and practice many questions so that I do not leave anything to chance. Thanks in advance. Please do help

Hello,

Firstly if you are not taking l2 exam this June due to perceived difficulty of l2, then I would strongly urge you to reconsider your decision. If it’s due to other reasons, then it’s okay.

Secondly, start with the most difficult topics (FRA, Derivatives etc.) or whatever you find difficult. My strategy always is to tackle to hard stuff first so that I can devote more time to it.

With the amount of time you have at your disposal, I would advise you to go in depth of every concept/theory especially for FRA/Equity. (combined weightage of at least 35% and can go as high as 55% at Level 2). Even if you just read for 1 hour for the next 6 months, it would sum up to 180 hours. You can pick up the pace by August/September and start your “intensive” studies and after that you already know what to do.

Imo, >1 year is a very very long time so make sure you keep revisiting the stuff you learned because it will be very hard to remember minute details of each concept/theory for such great length of time.

Anyways Good luck !

I think you may be doing yourself a disservice by starting this early. There is so much material in the CFA level 2 curriculum and peering through it over a year and a half period could lead to two things:

  1. Inability to retain everything. As you keep trying to memorize everything you will naturally forget it as you relearn other parts. You do not want to reach your climax too early!

  2. You may get lazy after considering how much time you have to study. Seriously, you do not need 1.5 years to pass this exam. I find it extraordinarly farfetched that you will commit the time.

Sure, do it if you want, but I would argue against it. Enjoy your life, and throughout the summer create a strong study plan and begin in Fall 2014.

Do nothing now. enjoy your life.

Thanks alot for the various view points. Could anyone suggest the order in which i study as in the order of subjects. Thanks in advance

Equity should be the starter followed by FRA . having done with the big fish , you would at least have the satisfaction of getting through almost half of the stuff in terms of questions asked in the exam, .Later you can harge and get the remaining topics in the sequence …Derivatives, FI, QT,CF,PM,AA,ECO,Keep the queen of hearts Ethics for the last…
