Susquehanna

Any one have interviews with their HR ? I have a first round coming up in about a week with their HR for a ER associate spot.Any ideas or tips would be appreciated. Thanks.

learn how to play poker if you don’t

I used to work there. Brush up on your probability and logic. Here’s an example of a question from one of their interviews http://www.analystforum.com/phorums/read.php?1,1104547 Also brush up on general gambling. Like itstoohot said, learn poker. If you go in there without know gambling theory, you’re screwed.

Like the guys said go over your probability and stats, be ready to think quick and know your poker like the back of your hand and the probabilities of getting each card You’ll have one on the phone then in person to meeting the trader etc.

do you have to go far as to learn poker? Why not get your prob. knowledge down patt or do prob. brain teasers?

Guys, This is for an Equity research associate position. I highly doubt if the HR is lady is going to ask me probability or poker questions.Any one interviewed there for a Research spot?? Thanks.

I’ve seen them use poker tournaments to screen for candidates. Just because she works in HR doesn’t mean she can’t ask you probability questions. She could easily have been given the questions and an answer sheet from one of the other staff as a screening method. You asked for advice, so you should probably take it instead of dismissing it.

I interviewed with Susquehanna a few years ago before taking a job with a real company. They asked a lot of dice and coin flipping questions in both round 1 and 2. I got tripped up by the “if you flip a coin 10 times and it comes up heads 10 times, what’s the probability that it comes up heads on the 11th flip” question. Answer: not 50%.

Yeah I got basketball questions and one on sitting around a poker table (what was the probability of getting a certain seat), probability of getting a certain card in poker and what I would do if I had a hand and what was on the table etc… You’ll get this for all of their positions!

No clue what the answer was. And no offense but I’m surprised that KarenC got an interview coming from a more qualitative background.

Answer: not 50%. Is this a trick question? “Ohohoho, if it lands on heads 10x in a row, the coin must be biased.”

Whoops got it backwards. Probability is like .05%.

No, I think the answer was somewhere in the 90-95% range. You have weigh the probability that the coin is either double-headed versus the fact that you just got lucky and flipped heads 10 straight times.

If the coin could be double-headed, it looks like the probability is: (0.5^11)/(0.5^11 + 0.5)*0.5 + 0.5(0.5^11 + 0.5)

@SMIRK Dont’ know why you are dissing SIG by implying they aren’t a “real” company. What makes you think that? @res420 you’ll definitely get questions like these. You’ll get some very difficult logic questions as well. They have a very strict model of the type of person they want working there, and they can be selective since there are tons of people dieing to work there. If you don’t get the job don’t sweat it, it wasn’t meant to be. Good luck man. P.S. Don’t underestimate the HR people there. The one lady is probably the sharpest HR person in the business. Edit: Also res420, if they offer you any bets…be VERY careful what you do. There is a right answer.

Clearly doesn’t answer my question. You must have just bombed the interview and are sour about it.

Clearly, certain people here are insecure and bitter about many things. It’s best to just ignore such comments.
