I’m currently in the accounting field doing FS audits with a big four firm - I just became a senior after two years here, but I find the job to be extremely boring. I’m looking to go into a career in finance, and i’m in the very early stages of doing so. I’m asking for advice on how early I should start looking if I want to start a new job in about a year, and what kind of jobs would be available or I’d be best suited for considering my background (I’m waiting on LII scores and I do have a CPA license). Thanks in advance
Try to get into corp finance or transaction advisory at the big 4 where you work.
That’s one of the things I was vaguely considering, especially with this job market (particularly in finance). It’ll be a lot easier to just switch to an advisory division here, but I still feel like it still has the shadow of accounting… i.e. most of the financial risk management guys here end up doing valuations for the audit teams (probably 40 - 50% of the time), granted they’re not doing accounting work. Corporate finance sounds like a good option, but my concern with that is that it is slower paced at the onset and I wouldn’t learn as much as I would elsewhere (but again, i have a very limited knowledge of what people do in purely finance roles on a day-to-day basis, so I might be mistaken). How about equity or fixed income research? How difficult is it to get into those types of jobs?
