Hi all, any advice/insights into taking a job for which you are perhaps over-qualified? I am (big surprise) trying to get into equity research (originally targeted sell-side but now considering buy-side as well) but have no direct experience (am currently in inst. sales) with research and have seen several postings for research assistant positions… even though these positions do entail a small bit of admin-type work, would they be worth pursuing as they will allow you to get your foot in the door and get to know the people you would potentially want to work for? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
pics please

i really don’t know too many hot CFA babes (maybe a cfaprincess, but that’s about it). i agree with sternwolf – visual aids would be helpful. it might not guarantee you a job in equity research, but could certainly dispel the rumor that there’s no such thing as a hot CFA babe.
That is my hometown! In NYC now though…

on a more serious note, i’m aware of an opportunity at an investment bank in midtown that is looking for a research associate covering retail stocks. it was posted here a few days ago but i think it is a credible source. feel free to drop me an email (my info is in my profile) if you’re interested and i can send you the job description. it’s a pretty standard sell-side associate role, but they might be looking for someone that already has had research experience.
was that the one advertised by “ronburgundy”? Do you think it was legit?
yes/yes

You can take a job below me… (sorry, couldn’t help myself…) In all seriousness, if you REALLY want to be in ER, F it, go for it–otherwise, enjoy your posiiton in this market. Once things pick up, you could probably finish the CFA, network and revisit…

I don’t know where you guys are located but there were at least a few hotties in my December L1 exam. That in a room of a few hundred… but still.
I’ve got a job for you that’s “below” me. … I had to. With that title, you were asking for it.
Wait, what do you mean by that homie? Are you making some reference that I’m not aware of? Please explain to me and other confused people…
bostonkev, no need to be confused, i think he was referring to the hot CFA babe (and not you)
HotCFAbabe (what an unfortunate name), I’d say it could be worth pursuing. Watch out that you don’t get stuck in some sort of secretary’s position and/or that you don’t get mixed up with the secretaries. However, without a foot in the door you will not be able to do the transition, and without experience from the field you’re targeting you will not be offered a more advanced job.
I’d stay in sales…good looks are an asset there. Why waste them updating models and earnings reports for 14 hours a day?
I’ll give you a job tomorrow in equity research…send me your CV and any other relevant details. Do you like Canada and the ballet?
