Do we have anyone who has already taken test in US? Do centers in USA have waiting area where people can wait or is it completely prohibited to have someone accompany you, of course not in the exam room?
The exam centers are typically in convention centers or hotel ballrooms. There are plenty of places your guest could entertain themselves while you suffer.

There is usually no designated waiting area, so it’s up to your companion to find something to do. My L1 test was in some hotel, so I guess a guest could have bummed around in the lobby. The bar was closed in the morning. L2 was at a convention center with a jewelry expo next door (apparently, a Texas CFA test was next to a gun expo one year). My L3 test was in some public hall in the city, near tourist attractions.
