I know I’m probably going to take some flack for this, but I was (still am) a huge fan of Taking Back Sunday’s “Tell All Your Friends” album. That came out when I was 18/19 and really impacted my life (I was playing in garage bands, etc at the time). Anyhow, stopped following them after the band changed the lineup following that CD. Just found out the album they released last week is back to the original lineup (8 years later) and they’ll be touring that way. Probably not a big deal, but it’s kinda boosted my moral to see something from my youth reassemble itself rather than falling away. Don’t know if any of you are / were into that indie / emo scene.
There is a homo in this thread and it isn’t me…
I listened to TBS/Brand New back in the day. They had some great songs. I did not have swoopy hair that covered my eyes or wear black (be on the scene). But yea… I know what you’re talking about. I don’t know where you were from, but I remember a friend of mine saying these kids were from Long Island. I think this was a NY thing. I wonder if people in the south ever heard of it?
I was from near Philadelphia and it was definitely a huge PA / NJ / Long Island scene. Saves the Day, Thursday, Brand New (still considered one of my top 3 bands of all time hands down), TBS, they were pretty iconic. Brand New and TBS share band members, some of which went to the same high school together.

Brand New is widely considered one of the best songwriting musical talents of the past two decades by music critics.

You are reminding me of one of my friends a lot he was heavy into this stuff. He would go to the shows, knew how the bands formed, etc. He also got me into another band which I really liked “Streetlight Manifesto.” They had a lot of horns which I always thought were great. Now he “blasts hip hop like it’s a true reflection of musical creativity.” RACKS ON RACKS ON RACKS

I’ll be honest, in my mind it’s a small boost. Although, while your favorite weapon is cool, if she’d brought Deja Entendu or The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me, I’d have proposed on the spot. Chances are, if she’s into Brand New, she’s looking for the intense artisty type.

I liked that CD. ROFL @ ‘real’ date girl. I really don’t know if the first thing I would play someone on a date is Brand New. Doubt it changes anything, but it’s better than a lot of what she could of brought. You should still network those rock-chick connections. Bring her back her CD and burn her a copy of TBS then you got RACKS ON RACKS ON RACKS.
Do not burn her a copy of TBS, it’d be too weak for a BN fan, it’s a mildly different genre, but a lot of BN fans are huge into The Gaslight Anthem, their album Sink or Swim is a great one to burn / buy her a copy of if you’re going to try to follow up.

I just went to see BN again like 2 months ago. If you’re into that stuff, I can talk music, bands, and back stories for days. The music scene is literally my life.

Trumped. I’m not sure on this, suggestions of a noobie. If you want to give her some cool indie hip hop you come back and ask me.
> i smell a mash-up in the works… Honestly, I was working on a mash-up. I am a big fan of what Girl Talk does and I would describe my music very similar to his (as in no real preference). It was a lot of fun, but my computer would crash because it took so much computing power. I recently built a new PC so I might get back into it. I know everyone wants to hear Kelis’s Milkshake Song over Born in the USA I was going to put together just some wild mixes: M.I.A vs BSB vs Cam’ron WINNER
Are they not a band more targetted at kids in the 12-16 age range? serious question, this is actually what I am under the impression of
MagicSkyFairy That’s when I was listening to them.
lxwarr30 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > MagicSkyFairy > > That’s when I was listening to them. Same. I was actually 19-20, but at the time the Tell All Your Friends album was big in that group too. Their subsequent albums got more poppy after the original lineup split.
Just to add though, Brand New - The Devil and God are Raging Inside Me is good for all ages, it’s a critically acclaimed rock album. Takes a few listens to really get into though. The gaslight anthem album I mentioned above is also good that way
