Taming inflation, Turkey edition

Erdogan just sacked Turkey’s statistics chief because of high inflation numbers. Definitely one of the most underrated ways of taming inflation. Powell should take note.

“A decree published in the country’s official gazette early on Saturday morning announced the removal of Sait Erdal Dincer, after the official rate of inflation reached a 19-year high of 36 per cent in December. He had served just 10 months in the role.”

Wonder if he’ll get a pay rise in his next role with that inflation rate

It’s the same idea that Trump had with COVID tests…if you simply don’t do as many tests, the “numbers” won’t be that high. Perhaps Dincer should have studied this new post-fact-based approach to statistics more closely?
