Like the single use ones? I don’t think single use bathrooms are a concern. It’s extremely uncommon in the US where the stalls at least would not be separated. I don’t think there’s a need to ban something that isn’t really in use. For the life of me I can’t remember having used a public bathroom where both sexes were simultaneously using it.
You’re basically talking about banning unicorns. But sure, if it makes you feel better go for it. I have no dog in that fight.
No, we can’t. You don’t remember the Colorado wedding cake ordeal?
Plus, this doesn’t solve the situation for public (as in, governmental) restrooms, like at the courthouse, the public schools and universities, police station, etc.
I don’t think transgender people in bathrooms are going to end up flashing little kids. It would be too easy to single them out. There are probably many more normal male perverts anyway. If we have to have a bathroom policy, I don’t think it should be based on “how people feel about themselves” rather than anatomical or chromosomal definition. However, singling out transgender people as perverts is just discriminative.
Yeah, those bakers were made out to be fools. They also saw an uptick in business from like-minded fools. Win-win in my book. Private businesses should be able to deny services to anyone for any reason.
Your example of restrooms on government property is a tougher one. Anarchy?
0.3% of the population is trans so I really dont get the mass hysteria going on here. As for cross dressers- I know a guy who is a mechanic by day but before he hits the bar at 6 pm likes to wear heels and makeup. He is a straight man and uses the men’s bathroom. So Bchad’s idea of having people use the bathroom of the gender they are trying to look like is kind of silly. Chances are some of us have used a bathroom with a trans and not even known it. Women’s bathrooms have stalls so im not sure why you would be worried about your teen daughter having some lady boy exposing itself to her. Maybe next time Ace is using the urinal he will see one of these. (its just a shenis device)
Is everybody trolling or just not reading? NOBODY is saying the transgender people are the problem or labeling them as perverts. At least I’m not, Greenie might. I’m saying that lowering that legal threshold opens the doors to people abusing the honor system (non-transgender) where before you had a line in the sand. In otherwords, I’m not concerned about transgender individuals, the perverts in question are the straight offenders.
Nearly one in five college women were victims of rape or attempted rape during their freshmen year, with the most falling prey during their first three months on campus, according to a new study.
Let’s be honest here. This isn’t about protecting children. There are male creeps that like boys. They already have access to the same facilities and it hasn’t been a concern. We’re talking about guys and gals being uncomfortable going to the bathroom or undressing in a locker room in front of people of another sex…or people in the middle, whatever.
This isn’t about protecting anyone. It’s about making sure people don’t have to face their own insecurities.
you guys are all making a strong point for the men’s rights movement. If we all band together, we can take back our washrooms and bring back the urinal! stop the PC movement in its tracks!
Yes, West Texas has special genetics that prevent any gays or transgender from being born there. These people only exist elsewhere, never in West Texas. The idea that “they probably don’t last long” is the big motive behind LGT-whatever rights. These folks do have a basic human right to be able to live their lives in a reasonable accommodative way. They have higher suicide rates than the general population. Anyone should have sympathy towards that, regardless of whether they agree with that lifestyle. I 100% agree with the security issues and I’m not personally in favour of allowing people to chose their bathroom of the day. But the ignornance in a statement like Greenie’s here couldn’t just be left to stand…
What does that have to do with the price of tea in China? I only skimmed the article, but I don’t think it mentioned co-ed bathrooms being the location of choice for these assaults. I was saying the co-ed bathrooms aren’t filled with guys looking to prey on women. Not everything that happens at college.
This is the one argument (and a valid one) I have been trying to take into account.
On a high level I was looking at the assault statistics and male assaulting female cases are extremely more likely (1/5 women vs 1/71 men will be raped in their lifetimes) with the overwhelming majority of perpetrators in each case being male. So you could say that just by playing the numbers there’s still a valid case for the separation by sexes.
The overwhelming majority knew their attacker from school statistically. So ERGO, the bathrooms are home to perverts at these rape centers. Logical proof. I mean, you were a frat boy, so I assume you know.
Like Saudi style? Women shall never be alone with a man who is not her husband lest the man have uncontrollable urges? Why limit at the bathroom? Men and women should immediately have segregated subway cars, for example. God forbid the sexes mingle and someone loses control.
Slow your roll, homie. We’re getting off topic. I’m not saying there isn’t a problem of sexual assault on college campuses. I am saying I’m willing to bet there zero correlation to assaults and co-ed bathrooms.
Hmmm maybe because people aren’t isolated and alone trying to do their business in a vulnerable situation there with a reasonable expectation of privacy?
